Excuse my ignorance, but what is Schranz? I have heard the term before, but it only seems to describe hard, banging, minimal techno. Why not call it hard, banging, minimal techno?

Has anybody got a definition of schranz for the benefit of those of use that don't know? I think it might be best if I start another thread so as not to annoy Wheezer.

The Mysterious Origions of Schranz

Some up and coming DJ called Chris Liebing used to go into his local record shop and buy tons of records. He was friends with one of the guys in there so his friend used to put certain records aside for Chris that he thought he'd like to listen to. Between the two of them they coined the term schranz as a word to refer the style.

Think of that German feeling from Liebing's productions and thats the best idea of what schranz is. Rush just takes schranz and plays it at +8%.4/4 loop based cludge stuff.

Thanks for setting me straight on the schranz front. Hard, germanic techno will never be the same to me again.
