Hi,
i was given another PC which is quite fast but has not got
a soundcard but an Asus a7m266 Mainboard with an onboard
soundchip. When I tried to run Cubase on it I received a
Kernel32-Error, the same happened when I tried to initialize
the audio driver in Logic`s Options. I already got a working soundcard in my first Computer so I am not willing to spend money
on another one. Is there any possibility to run Cubase using
the onboadr soundchip?
Thanks in advance,
oliver

most of these machines use crystal sound chips for the sound and as such there is loads of drivers out there on the web for them.

get yourself to asus's support website and download the newest set of drivers for your machine. if it doesnt work after that just look at paying a few quid or euros (depending where you are) on a sound card...nothing fancy just a basic soundblaster clone

if you feel like going a bit better try www.thomann.de great online music shop where I have bought almost all of my gear from.

logic and cubase dont really like some motherboards and audio chip setups but if you persevere it should work. It depends on the version of windows on the machine as well. 98 SE and above should work although it depends if the processor can handle it or not.

hope this helps.
