http://www.MP3newswire.net has an article that mocks the RIAA's claims that file trading is hurting the record industry. The music industry has been wailing that the proof comes from the direct correlation between the rise in file trading and the fall of record sales. OK, guess what? DVD sales are up 61% this year alone. So the author has used the exact same logic (a direct correlation between the rise in file trading and the rise in DVD sales) to officially declare that file trading is responsible for the huge leap in DVD revenue. Let's see if THIS reasoning gets chanted to congress.

im very pro-mp3 but i still find it slightly hard to believe.

but from the dvd rentals side...

DVD sales are up 61% but with a statistic like that i think i must take in consideration that dvd is nowadays a killing market to make sure that they get the most possible amount of extra content fitting onto that disc....and they are quite inexpensive for what you get.

and another point is that Movies at home are full-blown surround cinema systems experiance, all within the walk from your own fridge, and at your own selection.

and i think ppl would be more in a position to buy a classic by kubrick then spending 20 quid on 'daredevil' or somefing that hasnt passed thru the test of time..

and do these figures reflect the fact that loads more people are buying dvd players now? i wonder how the sales of all video formats (dvd and vhs combined) are doing.

also, i agree with mux. dvd's are just great. you get ridiculous amouts of info (i love commentaries!) and they really change the music watching experience for me. i think that the music industry would sell more cds as well, if they came with a dvd or some format that allowed commentaries, and loads of extra features.

I hope file trading is not hurting sales!

Sometimes, I trade mp3s (o the shame), however, I find the quality so poor, so they become a precursor to me buying a copy.

I have some integrity though, and although I have 4 tracks from Raw Digits in my shared folder, they are all mono tracks (but good quality). I have never ever seen ANY super_collider tracks on my fileshare prog, other than the one's I put up, and also they are quite popular! No Lidell either! Fan loyalty must be strong :)_

See that´s interesting - cause you find more and more dvd-audio discs around in fantastic sound - even better than traditional CD´s(won´t get too technical now) and possibility to work with 5 channels and more. (pro tools offers that feature aswell..).+ all that additional info. So.... maybe DVD-audio is the solution?? You won´t be able to rip that format.

- not yet..... hmm....
