Peter Gabriel is obsessed with discovering whether great apes can understand and communicate in our language and has tried creating music with them. Gabriel encouraged them to play the keyboards and was "blown away" by the results and he's even suggested the creation of an organisation to enable great apes around the world to communicate via the internet!

it would be better, if we could be bothered to learn the language of the great apes (seeing as humans are great apes). instead of making them learn how we communicate. bloody stupid humans.

what does the apes musick sound like?

phil

we are similar to apes but apes are hairy all over and cant talk. whoever created us assuming it was some intelligent entities, must have thought they would make some creature that was similar but a bit more tweaked out and dumbed down.. prolly to fit in the food chain or some such. you will have to ask the people of Sirius.

phil. tis my belief, that the human species is just part of the apes.
like gorillas, chimps, urangutans etc so they have a little more hair.
I am all for evolution, and see that humans and all the other apes had a common ancestor. we are apes as far as I am concerned.

not monkey's as that different (monkey's have tails, other differences).

I hate humanities pedestal of greatness, we are just thugs!

phil

Evolution doesnt sit well in my mind. we were greated in gods image, cause he's just like us and decided to have a laugh and begin an experiment on earth, well thats what i reckon. and i reckon noahs ark was a space ship..but i read that and it seemed about right. theres no way we came from a single cell, no way. Apes can be pretty thugged out, but they are sorted. i saw an albino gorilla when i was in San Diego, he was in a zoo but the zoo was huge and we was happy. i like monkeys cause they eat your car

here is a good site for ya then ;)

as for coming from a single cell... stranger things have happened ;)

monkey's are great.

so you a creationist? a friend of mine doesn't believe in evolution.
I like evolution, its all in the numbers!

What did the Gorilla do with the apple he was holding in his hands?

He brought it to school and said, 'An Ape-lle for the teacher!'

Does anybody remember that trashy tv series 'monkey'?
I stumbled across an interesting fact t'other day - 'monkey' was written in the early 1500's by a chinese poet and author 'Wu Cheng En' and is a great book, bit like the hobbit but better and about a stone monkey. http://www.monkeyheaven.com/books_literature.html

Monkey is a version of "Journey to the West", it is the epic story of how Buddhism was brought to China. I have seen many cartoons featuring these stories in HK. The iconography of that story is everywhere in HK/China. It is comparable in importance to The Three Kingdoms etc in Chinese literature - one of the seminal texts

pant hoot! I loved 'great apes' too emma. Did you like his other novels - 'my idea of fun' etc?

Lady E
16th April 2003, 10:36
yes - 'my idea of fun' i found really disturbing, it gave me bad dreams all the time...especially as its set in brighton in part...just felt too close to home. i know someone who reminds me of the fat controller too.

'cock and bull' is good too.

i think he's marvellous.

Me too. I loved his first short story novel as well, 'quantity theory of insanity'. Very clever guy. Oh and his imitation of Bernard Bresslaw in shooting stars the other night was worth a chuckle. Compliments on your literary taste, dear moderator. :)

invisible planet - if you want a joyous miraculous challenging read , which is 'dark' in as much as you cant have light without its opposite, read phillip pullman's 'dark materials' trilogy. if you havent already - maybe your son has? they are childrens books in the best sense, so brilliant. im jealous of anyone who hasnt read these for the sheer treat you have in store .
