...Or know of any places to buy second hand with warranty... Mine's just conked it and already tried gumtree, ebay etc...

I admit this is a very long shot but worth a try!

I've got an antique washboard as it goes. Not for sale though. I need it in case someone asks me to join their skiffle band.

ok.. so it was a long shot.. i was imagining a reply such as:

Hi jerome, i have a friend who lives near you and is moving house to a furnished flat and he wants to get rid of his zanussi washer/dryer for 100 pounds with 2 of the 3 years warranty still left on it! He also has a van and is looking to buy a roland sh101... you've got one for sale haven't you... yes!

Go on, jibe away...
and incidently how do you wash clothes with a wash board? do you put them on a flat surface and kind of grind them with the washboard?

why not just use the 101 as a washboard?

the washboard stands in a tub of hot water, lie the clothing across the washboard and rub soap across the clothing then rinse
you'll need a mangle too
you'll need special washing soap... its harder than normal soap

i consulted my northern dna for this answer

aah, i think i get it.. so after you rinse you'd have to put it back on and repeat the soap rubbing, but maybe with the clothing item a centimetre to the left or right or else you run the risk of cleaning only in stripes where the washboard was protruding and missing all the bits that were over the dipped bits... or something...
I guess if i ripped every other key of the 101 it would serve as a rudimentary wash board.. If only it had midi, then i'd be able to program it properly
