I'm off out tonight to dance to the sounds of Anthony 'Shake' Shakir.

I expect much Detroity type stuff but will I hear TubeJerks - Eight ?

Not bloody likely ....

Still should be a good one nevertheless .....

Not a lot tonight. Tomorrow sees me having to pay £200 to get my car fixed, and getting broadband fitted! Tomorrow night I will be spinning a few tunes at Substorm here in Glasgow. I will be driving though as I think I should save myself for next week's visit to the smoke.

Saw shake at ATP last weekend, he fucking rocked, wasn't hard but was very funky sounding. Poor guy has MS and is in a wheelchair most of the tiime now. Still plays wicked music though, started off in a chair djing but even made himself dance after about half an hour

11th April 2003, 13:57
@ mux I've seen charles webster he's cool, soulful house music. He knows all the DIY lot and came back to a party we had in brighton after he played. Nice guy

dirtyho - soulfull house? doesn that mean "too many vocal tracks"?

dirtyho
11th April 2003, 14:12
Depends on your taste I suppose, but yes many vocal tracks in effect when I saw him. He played at (but not on) the same night (fluid groove) as Owen Jay. I'm friends with Matt Pond who runs that night and a record shop in brighton. Them lot are mostly listening to deep house.

Can't believe its Friday already. Have only just recovered from last weekend.
I'm going out for a curry in Brick Lane with my mate whos back from Thailand and then to the Control Tower night with radioactive man, dexorcist, dirty hospital and drexciyan dj stingray. Should be a good night.

MUX
11th April 2003, 14:21
yeah owen's one of my friends, and he hosted the nite. ( hiro knows him too )
( did we already talk bout this, or am i dejavu'ing)?
it's funny to hear that cause owen started my off listening to la Erutufon style, he dropped mokba e.p. in some nights, then i heard Plastered Cracks & two fat downloads... kabam.... i was hooked
owen plays the micro & soulfull house now.. quite good...

Basic 2: The Revenge
11th April 2003, 14:21
I had a wicked curry down Brick Lane the last time I was in London. It was even better when you get to bring your own booze....

dirtyho
11th April 2003, 14:29
I was drunk, but yeah, I think I asked you already. Good house music is great in reasonable doses, it's sexy dancing music. Not for 16 hours solid though - I've had that at parties in brighton, 10 in the morning and you're begging them to put reggae or anything but house music on.

11th April 2003, 14:31
That's what I like about this style of techno as opposed to straight 4/4 bangers. That stuff is marching music not dancing music, no funk, no sideways element that gives different angles into the rhythm.

aleks
11th April 2003, 14:33
mmmmh, tonight i will get drunk with lots of hennessy and rum. hopefully i´ll be able to get to berlin tomorrow night to see tube jerk and steve glenncross, but since i don´t have a car or enough money for the train i will get drunk again and on sunday it is football time and that means i have to drink again...poor little aleks :)

MUX
11th April 2003, 14:36
yeah u asked me at the skitz. yr right.
same thing i like in this techno.. a perfect break from the norm
but i consider the sound a bit overdone and by producers that are new, when the originators have moved on so much.. but consider that the sound can be such an influence on the regular techno-licker

dirtyho
11th April 2003, 14:42
Yeah, I don't actually go to techno nights that often any more, that's from living in brighton where there's now very little good techno on offer. You have to go to London really. Thing are slightly improving recently. Cris used to get loads of good people over, so i went out to techno nights all the time then. Halcyon days!

11th April 2003, 14:59
-tonight nothing
-tomorrow at club achtermai: pleasant derailing with subhead and cora s, and me on the second floor making some liveshit, hooooooray, i think i will be drunk

I completely agree mate. Same bloody beat pounding away for about 8 hrs completely bores me to tears no matter how twatted I am. I don't go to that many techno nights anymore for this reason, I much prefer drum n bass nights. Drum n bass is great for dancing too cos when you're up fer it, you go with the drum, when you're knackered you sway with the bass. Lovely. Plus its quite stop/starty with all the rewinds and shennanigans and that gives you a breather too.

All the No-Futurey side of techno that I've only recently discovered (as in the last couple of years) is great, loads of interesting sounds etc that sound great just stood there taking it all in, and great bass/drops etc that you can go mental to aswell...

Erm.

The end.

Soz if I bored anyone there.

Mux, Charles Webster is great. I've got one of his albums, Presence - All Systems Gone which is wicked to chill out to. Proper chilled deep house .... nice.....

Indeedy, caught him playin a while back too, played some real soothing grooves as do them good ol DIY boys......

u know them at all ?

They're responsible for my gettin into deeper music in general, have had them over for quite a few parties over the years....gotta say personally i find the whole deep house thing excellent, even after
16 hours!!! I love the way some DJs can really mix it up:
eg. latin, soul, rare groove, bit of acid house for good measure :)

Shake's cool at any rate !

Nice, lovely, fuck.

Emma, you've made me come over all unnecessary..... :-)

And I've been told off for bad language in work recently too.

I quite like swear words, can be quite funny used in the right places.

Don't like the c-word though.... not nice.

dirtyho
11th April 2003, 16:10
@owain, only thru friends. yeah it's cool if they mix it up, bit of roy ayers, bit of galaxy to galaxy etc. 16 hours of same style begins to feel like a metronome after a while

dirtyho
11th April 2003, 16:13
the "c" word, pah
are you a girl?

Lady E
11th April 2003, 16:18
cunt - good anglo-saxon word! admittedly one i wouldnt be happy saying in front of my mum, although we love a good swearing session together.

shouldnt used so pejoratively though. its the harshest of insults really and that is a sad thing

old skool
11th April 2003, 16:23
Heh, me and my mum swear like troopers when we're together, spesh if we'd had a few drinks like.

But if I said 'cunt' in front of her, I'd get a smack round the chops.

I heard some lad call his mate 'cocksnot' the other day.... now that sounds horrible.... in front of all those pensioners too .... bloody kids ....

it's ok by me

old skool
11th April 2003, 16:28
What or who is chaucer ?

dirtyho
11th April 2003, 16:32
he's the author of the canterbury tales
if you do english a-level you get to read loads of him
our english teacher used to get really excited about the etymological
relationship between quint and cunt and go red in the face banging on about it

old skool
11th April 2003, 16:35
Oh right. Bloody terrible that, reading books with swear words in when you're a teenager... ;-)

Lady E
11th April 2003, 17:54
ive got english lit gcse, a-level, s-level (between a level and degree) and BA and never read a word of chaucer. shocking isnt it?

i reasoned with the landlord of the pub iwas told off in for swearing by pointing out the word cunt's chaucerian heritage. he told me i was being offensive, refused to serve me any more and we had to leave...i had had quite enough to drink by that point tho and was mortally embarassed the next day. and still am.

fuck off, i don't fucking believe you!

fucking Brighton, people say it's London on Sea, oh ho - London isn't nearly up its own arse as Brighton.

Go to Brighton, order a pint of lager - £2.90 please - what the fuck! My mates are all like, calm down, calm down stop making a scene, it's Brighton innit - London on Sea, gotta pay London prices!

I'm like fucking fuck that I live in fucking London and it ain't fucking £2-fucking-ninety-fucking-pence for a fucking pint of piss-weak-watered-down-fucking lager...

honestly where do these cunts get off... :-)

@Emma - how about a pub crawl next time I'm in Brighton - try and get chucked out as many as possible - the mortgage papers should have come through by then :-)

As a continuation....

Who's out ravin' this Easter weekend then ?

I'm off to Sankeys in Manchestoh to see Francois K and Derrick May.

Not really arsed about Derrick May, seen him loads of times, made no lasting impression like ... well apart from an o.k DJ who's living off the tunes he made a hundred years ago.... he does a great impression of that like ...

But Francois K....

I've noticed quite a lot on these threads that loads of people still do the Friday and the Saturday night.

The last time I did a weekender was about 3 years ago !! I never used to think twice about going places like Bugged Out on the Friday in Manc, then off to Voodoo or to the Orbit on the Saturday night....

In fact just thinking about going out on Friday, going straight through until Sat then finally getting sleep on the Sunday night makes me shudder just thinking about it ...

Must be getting old !!

Tomoki
17th April 2003, 16:09
I’m old, too. lol

Normally I don’t do weekenders as well.

When I’m away like last weekend, the Friday or Saturday is much shorter than the other day.
Last Friday I was away till 5 o clock and on Saturday till 3h. I guess that’s not a real weekender.
