That's not right - a gauntlet is an armoured glove and you throw down the gauntlet to challenge someone to a duel, so I guess if you were to 'put the gauntlet on someone' you'd slap them with a leather glove.
If I ever see a leather glove at someone's house, I always pick it up and ask them if they've heard the one about the Gestapo. When they say no, I slap them with it and scream 'YOU LIE!'
