ok, so on the way home from work today, i saw some guy djing in the subway, with a cup out. i mean, the guy had a coffin set up with decks and a mixer and two little speakers.

really made me laugh - i had to share.

actually some friends and I have been wanting to get all our battery powered gear together and do a live p.a. in the subway.... we even have really shitty epiphone amps that are powered off of 9v batteries! so far it's: tr606, mc202, yamaha sk-1, some delay pedals, & a little yamaha qy-20 sequencer. all we need is a battery powered mixer. any thoughts?

i saw someone doing a live pa in the subway last week..but somehow it didnt seem nearly half as wierd as the dj.

to be honest, i have no idea what he was mixing...it was in a passageway and rushhour, so i just hurried by with an amused smile on my face.

Thats coincidental - I really wanted to build a mobile two or three deck mix setup , with speakers and busk DJ in Barna ! - I thought it might be funny , especially if you have a bottle of beer and clap your hands when the mix is in ! - I'm sure poeple would throw a coin or two

to power a mixer and all yer other gear you could use a 12volt car battery and an inverter to make the volts up to 240. me and a bunch of mates went round europe with a sound system that used this method and it werked a treat, i think we had a 3k rig powered from 4 batteries. for more info check http://www.ray-mundo.co.uk/
hope this is helpful for ya.;)

yeah, it was definitely amusing. i think he was playing hip hop actually. and really getting into it. hopefully he'll be there again today and i'll get more of a look at his set up.

my mate recently bought a battery powered deck (i think from vestex, i'll have to ask) to listen to records at used shops. but i have no suggestions about the battery powered mixer.

cristian, if you do it, you should invite a whole bunch of mates to slowly filter in and start dancing, until it looks like you have a sponaneous party - i would love to see people's reaction to that.

had a similar idea for mobile decks that could be used to for this purpose, i will not give the full idea away now ( you never know), but you could sling them round your shoulder much like those 80's keyboards that were kind of held like a guitar, except there would two wee decks where you could clip records in and a little scratch mixer in the middle

was and still is my dream to wander the earth incite impromptu raves in random, mundane 'non-rave' locations using them

love the story of NYC club promoter/murderer? Michael Alig doing a kind of assault club on MacDonalds with millions of drag queens in the middle of the day

who's up for it? suggestions for first target please

did you ever see party boy on jackass? kinda that idea - this guy goes into car stereo shops and stuff like that, asks them to test out his tape of really crap 'techno' and then strips down to a gold g-string and start dancing around the shop. very funny stuff.

i think the funniest part of the sketch was how long it actually took the shop owners to start kicking him out.

@ aleks - what tune do you mean? the one on shed?

I like that fat cameraman of Jackass - I can't work out whether its for the cameras or whether the rest of the Jackass crew really do treat him like utter utter utter shit... Given the thread on how the US don't take the piss out of their friends - I suspect its for show - or maybe they really don't like him that much - Jackass is great - its like the new Raaawk, or are they just MTV employees like all the other popstars - I can't tell anymore - I think that's what I like about Jackass I can't tell if its real or a piss take - all this fly on the wall shit has just twists TV - scary...

Now I seem to remember about a year ago some japanese company launched a set of kiddie-looking but fully functional portable mini dex'n'mixer... I'll have to see if I can find a link for that. They were meant for taking on picnics and such, but they'd be boss for busking.

i once saw a little VW van thats runs along the record and plays it..

yeh that little bus is pretty funny but it damages the vinyl and you can't hook it up to a mixer afaik - otherwise that'd make for an impressive dj performance though =)

This reminds me of the time I saw Bill Bailey (British comedian/musician) busking in Covent Garden - with a gong.

He got quite a few people giving him money, too.

fantasized about this for ages. i travelled for years with records and a few small machines on my back.it allowed me to play in lots of weird places where tekno isn't often heard, like savannakhet, lagos, siem reap, a radio station in karnataka and a bunch of those creepy art bars in thonburi where thammasat students get caned and get into fights over wars that took place in the 1800s...never managed to sort out the whole battery powered mobile sound thing, but i did once see a guy in bangkok with a suitcase full of walkmen, guitar effects, and a pair of karaoke machines rinse out noise concrete on thanon silom one night while staggering home from deeper. his sound blended in with the traffic and yelling drunks in such a way that it made the night sound like a symphony. truly epic. try as i did, i never managed to encounter him again, tho if i live to be a thousand, i'll maybe someday make something what sounds so incredible...

i love party boy and all of jackass really. especially enjoy it when they come to the UK and get mashed by rugby players. the gumball rally thing was cool too but i have now seen it 5 times, mainly to catch party boy being a wrestler for about 2 seconds.

yer_maw - that is mental... now i cant remember how the johnny briggs tune goes...aaarrgghh
