He apparently owned the biggest library of books on the occult, true crime and hoaxes in the UK, possibly in Europe.
The weekly quiz he did in the Independent was amazing - questions that actually made your brain work rather than just being obscure knowledge you either know or don't... and answers that actually told you something about the world.
