Decal have a new EP out on Rotters Golf Club called Freeekin' Empires. 28th April is UK release, but I think a few have started goin' out in the States. Alan sent me a promo of it a wee while ago. Two of the tracks are over 150bpm! Funkstop is about 125-130 and has a nice sound.

Yeah, and live off the back of it for the past 10 years. I'm loath to admit that I have to go along to Pressure in order to catch Robert Hood and Technasia in May. Once in a year is more than enough. The last time I was there was to hook up with the geezers when they were doing the RGC tour. Luckily enough it was in one of the side Arches, but on my way through the strains of muckers chanting could be heard. It turned out they were shouting "Percy, Percy,Percy fuckin' X" . It was shocking, I did laugh though - in a pitying sorta way.

I just keep myself to myself and snigger from afar. I lose my temper if I'm in amongst them. When I went to see Mills last year, some ned was trying to come up and handle my girlfriend whilst she was standing with an arm round me. Not wanting to come across the alpha-male I just tried to hold him at arm's length, then resorts into pushing my fingers onto is eyeballs and pushing him back. Too much.

I dunno about any of the clubnights, never been clubbing in Scotland, but to be honest the clientele there sound like half of the techno clubs around here thesedays - boy things have changed.
But I've loved loads of tracks that have come out on Soma in the last 10 years, from Daft Punk to Slam to Ewan Pearson/Maas to Funk D'Void to Silicone Soul etc ...
I know most of the tracks have been battered like a fish in 'clubland' so you do get sick of hearing them but still good tracks never the less ...
Not really my bag techno-wise these days but the housier side I like....nice to hear from time to time ...

yeah - i guess i do like some of the housier stuff. but the techno is really dull

6 months or so pass and they are re-booked... well the head commisioner of police goes to the airport.. and they wouldnt let them get off the plane... claiming ' that they promote heavy drug use & are indecent...'

Old songs but....
"Feel So Real" by Steve Arrington - no matter how pissed off I get or how happy I feel, that song ALWAYS gets my spirits higher by about 500%
"I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" - Hall & Oates - it's actually my FAVOURITE song in the whole wide world, even if it came out the year I was born!!!!
My stong love for it has been boosted by the repulsive re-working of it by Simply Red - which is pretty messed up (especially with the awful wannabe sultry vocals of some girl singing the opening lines of the orginal track)
It's also further messed-up by the fact that I happen to like Simply Red (Don't laugh @ me - I get it enough from my mates...), so it was just offensive they dared to do it.....

the last thing I heard of holy ghost was some progressive trance sounding stuff a few years back.
@MUX: yes, that is El-p in my avatar.
@emma: I had thought that dungeon master was coming out in a few weeks. but I had to go to tower to pick up a magazine and thought I would take a look to see if it was there and it turned out that it was. when cristian had posted about it's release a while back I went to tower and did a search on their computer and it said DM was to come out on the 11th of march but the year was listed as 2002.
maybe the record store is located near a wurm hole and a copy from the future sneaked it's way into the techno section. :!

Shit, i'm even more worried by the fact i like that new simply red tune... but when you're driving home from work it sounds better than 90% of the arse that's played across all the radio stations...
at the moment though, to make up for my crimes, i am listening to the melvins
Lady E
4th April 2003, 14:02
im sorry the simply red thing isnt acceptable! although a thread by Phil a few months ago revealed quite a few Dire Straits fans so who knows...
i used to work at WHSmith in Walton on Thames where i grew up, in the stationary dept. the music dept was next to it and the two albums they played were Stars by Simply Red or Status Quo greatest hits. i liked Stars more but it wasnt really a choice id want to make again. silence would have been preferable...

D_G, if you want to hear a great cut-up of said song, try & get hold of DJ Yoda's- How to Cut & Paste Part 2, which you can probably download. 1 of the tracks is a mix of 80s stuff in a hip-hop stylee, including Hall & Oates & Rick Astley amongst others- unmissable!!!
