How fussy are laptops about memory? I've got an Acer Aspire 5100 and a want to boost the Ram from 512 to 2gb, so I was going to get a couple of these:

Do you reckon it would work ok?

All my laptop tells me about the Ram that is in there is:
797 mhz 448 mb of ram

i always check crucial first to see what they recommend

http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=Aspire%20 5100

that ebuyer page is confusing as the titles say pc2-5400 and the later detail says pc2-5300. crucial says use pc2-5300. So i checked wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR2_SDRAM) and it says this :

Some manufacturers label their DDR2-667 sticks as PC2-5400 instead of PC2-5300. At least one manufacturer has reported this reflects successful testing at a faster-than standard speed

so it sounds like its fine.

crucial is a tad more expensive, but i always buy my memory from them as they are really fast and ive returned memory a couple of times when i've ordered the wrong thing and they sorted me out without any questions. in fact once they even sent me the right memory before id sent the old one back, but that was a business account.

anyway, they have a tool you can download which tells you whats inside.

kingston are good too, I'd definitely go with them or crucial.

Thanks, very useful. I think I'll go for the crucial as it is only a quid more when you take postage into account.
