im not the biggest fan of striaght techno....that shit is the easiest stuff to write.............what a kick drum on a 4/4 count....a couple hi-hats, a bass line..that goes over and over...........waaawaaa.
now techno like cristian's/ruben/tsr tomas/gunjack/ischo for sure...........but thats not really "techno"
i guess i like intelegent tech"no"
oh and i love the detroit ambient techno shit, that choice
pille'ocheoni
1st April 2003, 16:07
i think its getting better, farther form the 4/4 floor bullshit.............more technical, more versatility, more elements, more transitions. techno will soon become a new genre of fucking amazing beats and ryhthms. soon it will revamp itself to something never seen before, and cristian is going to be a legend in the midst of the new" school " about to be reborn
aleks
1st April 2003, 16:07
there is no intelligent techno... and why is cristian´s or ruben´s etc stuff not techno? because it is harder to write?

'Techno' is what you want it to be, as long as it is forward-thinking music. Hence the reason why what we understand by the term 'stadium techno' to be long dead. 'Techno', I suppose, first appeared as music ahead of its time, even though that sounds very contradictory. I think there has been so much stuff churned out over the years, that the quest for freshness & originality has been knocked out of the beast that we love. Dig deep enough though, and there are producers who are still pushing the envelope.
Part of the problem is the constant compartmentalisation of music & that everything is labelled as 'techno' or 'electro', rather than 'good music' & 'shit music'. Unfortunately in the advent of the media saturating all walks of life, we are hardly going to see the breakdown of this pigeon-holing.

Longtime no hear Mr Irrungenwengernenenenen :-)
heh, heh, I love the term Stadium techno, you're the only person I've heard it use it - it conjures images in my mind of some cheesy cross between techno and glam-rock.
I can just see someone like Umek or even good ole DC all dressed up in Van Halen style chequered spandex tights - doing a scissor-kick over his eighteen decks (playing 17 copies of Loudboxer and one tune), five 909s and a couple of 303s...
Another ten years and it'll be happenin' the big superstar DJ comeback tours - at Wembley Arena - I can't wait... loads of grown up ravers, kids at the childminders, running around trying to score a pill for old-time's sake...

Is it because the vast majority of people who are listening to so-called 'techno' are listening to Schranz? That seems to be the case in the UK. Where all the commercial clubs and primetime dance music radio shows seem to have been taken over by looped techno. It is said that it is a good thing for music to reach a wider audience & I agree, in so far as the listener is influenced in such a way that it will go away & make something more positive out of the experience.
By the way Grobelaar, I feel the way that I use the term 'Stadium techno' has to stop. The way I've been guilty of this pigeon-holing is dreadful. From now on, it'll be referred to as a simple 'ST'

techno (in my opinion) is one of those genre's that's for the people and by the people. the people that listen to techno make techno, and the people that make techno listen to techno. not many other people are into the music. and usually those who are into techno and don't actually make tracks or spin are usually friends of people who do. it's a "takes-one-to-know-one" kind of thing. but that's strictly on observation. it's not as easy a sound to get people to like as something like hip hop. if it takes effort, chances are people will pass by it. herd mentality.

I wouldn't stop using the term Stadium techno, sorry I was making a crass attempt at humour and missing the debate...
Schranz, Stadium techno, warehouse techno, acid tekno/hard trance confuses the issue because people's make assumptions that its all techno and as a techno fan you must be into all - after all its just music to go out at the weekend and fuckin' avit, innit... I've heard people say, who cares what it is, as long as its avvinit...
Well that as maybe and I certainly don't begrudge anyone having that attitude, after all it's their weekend and they're free to do what they want.
However, I think people who are truly into techno have a bit more respect for the music though - its a bit more important than merely a soundtrack to have a party to...

techno is on a constant rise. aka an only upward rollercoaster. these people who moan about 4/4 kicks and sawtooth basslines? what the fuck do they know? write one you'd let your mom listen to, and if she likes it, then maybe you're getting somewhere. all these haters and purists. get a grip. music is fun .full stop. if it doesn't make you smile, go and weed your dandelions or buy a pair of driving slippers from halfords. techno is alive and well and living in the front bedroom.

Techno will never die! I think none-straight techno wander more and more from the floor (partys) to the home, because most listeners make there own music.
The tipical hoppel hoppel 4 to the floor techno like rush and C0 runs in every club and all crowds are screaming. what does it tell us?
simple stuff is better for the crowd in our time! not nice in my eyes

I can't sit still when I listen to techno - the very nature of it is active - I find it great to listen to when I'm on the move, whether walking and listening on my PS, or dancing at home or in a club, or working late into the night at my PC. For me, it sets a pace which helps to keep things moving forwards, however, it's NOT the type of music I choose to relax to.
I thrive on it's energy and rhythm...however, it's not the only genre which has these qualities, and it's not the only genre I like.
I have heard some 'techno' which is just badly-structured cacophony, or uses stolen sampled sounds in an uninspiring way, or so repetitively structured that I become bored after the 4th bar, and I try to avoid this formulated style when I'm at home, and don't find it inspiring to dance to when I'm out with the girls

techno is not dead to me, it's just moved on a little. it's also a fact that if you really like music you won't be into a single genre. so after the fashion thing finished those folks who were into it used it in other forms of creative endeavour, whether it be music or art. this dilution of techno is inevitable, who wants to listen to the same sound for ever. where i come from electronica is the thing every one is talking about, but to me that's just techno/electro/house/whatever.

For me, Techno is about shades of grey not black and white imprints points of view held by the masses - I can listen to Juan Atkins and then slap some wonky stuff on and be just as happy. Some stuff is for CD listen and some is purely for the dance floor...
I'm working hard, putting on events to bring new music and new DJ's to people that normally wouldn't get a chance, I do it because I love the music - I certainly don't do it for the money, there isn't any....

thats bullshit, techno is not dead and will never die...
i see it as following:
right now it has been the boom of techno and dance music in general, and i think now the calm is comin and only the ones who really believe in his shit and really does it with the heart, they will stay around, the rest will vanish, just like in any other kind of music... they will follow the trend!
currently a lot of people are afraid and talk about a crisis and shit like that. i say: bullshit! The underground is really motivated, everyone is experimenting risking and really motivated i see a lot of forums, where people are doing projects together.
i say mainstream culture are the ones who are really having da crisis, a cultural crisis and lack of ideas... u just have to watch the tv and then you see what is going on...
techno can't die ... this music is genetic ... the accentuated pulse, and the physicality of the music, helps the human mind comprehend and feel in rhythm the unstoppable progress of time. Its the clicks of the big wheel. Commercialisation of music , can only ever be something apart from the message within music itself , because music , recorded or live, is a special form of non-linguistic communication unique to us , and part of our human essence. . .
as for schranz and schlagerbeat - well , thats good when you're pissed and bored... That cologne sound was all about breaking through the boredom threshold to feel a strange, temporary, mildly psychotic high... It didn't define anything... AFX, on the other hand, has made music that sounds likes its a portrait or model of an intelligent mind having a hyper-activating drug experience... What an amazing sensation to capture in sound! the loud beat club is something that will be with us for a very long time , as it has , in some way, always been with us.. For example Tresor is a very futuristic space , in my opinion.

Someone asked whether there are types of music that have really died already. I think there are. Nobody listens seriously to Schlager music of the 20ties to 50ties, maybe except those who are old enough to have been young at the time and maybe some very obscure people who love to be nostalgic. So, of course it could happen to techno as well to sink into oblivion - theoretically. i don't think the rhythm itself is so essential that it can prevent techno from dying. But then - what else really fresh is coming instead? I see nothing.
