Alternative viewing pleasures will (hopefully) soon be returning to Bristol. Cube Cinema is set to re-open this April 1st after a fire damaged forced it to close last July. After a Re-Build Party graced by visual cowboys Hexstatic, expect intriguing things when the doors swing open again.

"Every city," says the Cube, "needs some stimulating nights in a cinema where you can drink-while-u-watch, listen to 10 sets of soundtracks to one 5 minute film, experience jazz-punk explosions, listen to BJ Cole and Luke Vibert or David Grubbs in intimate quarters, learn how to build your open house, see a multiplex film in an art-house den, mix absinthe with The Chelsea Girls, put a website up on its server, snack on more than popcorn or nachos, chat up the ushers, take in Rare Music next to an Elvis tribute night or Aphex Twin vids after 3 live soundtracks to forgotten cinematic masterpieces and get a regular dose of cult films."

They’re right, you know. The programme will continue where they left off with Blackout Sound Cinema (audio stimulation in a darkened room ooerr), Language, which involves audio and visual art, Independent Heroine ("feline fine-art, cult femme film and lady music"), and local film makers showground Bluescreen. Possible catches for the new year include The Cult Film Experience with Mondo Stark and the Light Surgeons…

Hi IP.

That press release is a bit inaccurate. As with most things that involve A) groups of artistically-led volunteers, B) Bristol City Council, these things usually take longer than planned. The Cube actually reopened at the end of August last year, with a guest appearance from Mr Yeeking, so it aint quite birthday candles yet!

They've got Cassetteboy and DJ Rubbish down there on Friday - bring it on!!
