Anyone know about Fonts? I need to buy a couple tonight to finish some label artwork in illustrator...
Is there any benefit going with an OpenType font rather than a Mac PostScript font other than cross platform compatibility? Not fussed about using it in Windows.

mac postscript would also work for os9 dont think a opentype would do that...
and regarding the advice for fonts i reckon its all about taste but http://www.houseind.com/ got a well nice portfolio. and of course theres always the lino types....

yeah totally.
We just bought 'Basic Commercial' from Linotype which is basically a very cheap but near identical version of Akzidenz Grotesk. Slightly less vanilla than Helvetica but not stupid.

I work with fonts quite a bit, and I always go for opentype. The thing is though that we publish in a variety of languages, which is where opentype really comes into its own. The downside with opentype is most obvious if you are not on the most current version of illustrator: not all opentype features are handled correctly by all DTP software, although the latest builds of QXP, Ai etc. should be fine.

surely it doesn't matter that much if you're doing stuff in illustrator for label art work, just convert any live text to curves and you shouldn't really be seeing any loss of sharpness.

Opentype was twice the price.. I can see the benefit after reading up about it.. but not really for us... well 'artwork' is pretty overstated FiST...

It looks like this except the label is a different colour with different words :)
Orange with white text. The futures bright, the futures Pantone 151...
The new record features two Vogel 'Never Engine' remixes, info (http://www.handontheplow.org/).
