View Full Version : Has the smoking ban killed the dancefloor?

I reckon it has in some clubs - whether this is temporary remains to be seen, but I do miss having a smoke on the dancefloor

some small clubs are geting hit badly in music terms, yes... quite disruptive seeing a dancefloor suddenly empty out.

Winter might help keep people in the venue though.

Just but a nicotine patch in the smoke machine, blow that into the crowed sorted.

How long did it take in Scotland? Or indeed Ireland?

Or indeed Ireland?

We never smoked when we're dancing anyway - you must have seen the way we all dance in a long line, holding hands with our arms straight at our sides kicking our feet in the air ? Did saint Michael of Flatley teach you nothing ?

This town, is coming like a ghost town
All the clubs have been closed down
This place, is coming like a ghost town
Bands won't play no more
too much farting on the dance floor

I see what you did there, joe pineapples. I see what you did.:)

I think it has, at least for me as I always end up outside and not hearing any tunes

Subtle eh?

Seriously tho the lack of carcenogenic fag smoke has led to folk smelling of mad guffers. e-farts r no laff.

I cannot see the problem with getting wheezy fag-slaves out the door tho, it leaves more room for those of us without a debilitating death-addiction to give it laldy.

what do you mean? you use the wheezing junkies outside to hide your own wacky backy smoking.

To be honest the smoking ban is great. Dont smoke as much, and can have a laugh outside with all the other cool folk.

Its all about promoters finding and making use of the hooky venues where you can smoke....i have noticed that the number of parties at a certain unnamed venue (those that know, know...) have recently got a lot higher.

I also noticed numbers at parties dropping before the ban kicked in.

i'm only yoking as the swedes say, how can i criticise fellow lung-damagers?

smoking ban is amazing. remember when u weren't allowed to go out of clubs and get back in again? total nonsense.

I've barely noticed the smoking ban... all I really notice is that my bad hangovers aren't as bad as they used to be...

this is great at the mo but I'm worried that this might be an easy thing to bust them for

i spend more time on the dancefloor now. i think it's because i don't want to miss anything by going outside, so i stay put, and while i'm here, i might as well continue with the dancing

If they banned smoking in bars and clubs here in Greece, it might actually do the dancefloor a favor, seeing as nobody ever dances here, all they do is sit at the bar and smoke constantly..

i'm getting more tired of going to the pub and everybody getting up for a fag... it really disrupts a good few pints and a group dynamic. A few times i've been out with mates and been the only mug left at the table cos 8 people have gone for a fag together... a couple of weeks ago i just left and some other people nicked the table and put the coats on the floor... hahaha

I rekon everybody should just give up as smoking tabs is as pointless as non-achoholic beer...

i think its worked alright at monox in glasgow, clubs busy without being annoyingy rammed
and ya can chat to people outside without having to shout in their ear
your clothes dont stink anymore
personally i think the smoking ban alright

apart from the stinky farting/b.o. cunts in clubs
cant people have a bath before they go out??????

Loz

yeah, i enjoy getting the opportunity to mingle when i do go outside for a fag. which isn't often. now when i go out, i smoke less than i would at home. bonus

Can you knock us up a powerpoint presentation of this pub smoke group dynamic? maybe with spinning chrome logos and soundtrack by Vashti Bunyan?

i find it surprisingly easy to smoke at monox if i really need one when the smoke machine kicks into gear (as do many others judging by the red dots that suddenly appear when the smoke does)

and i feel quite naughty doing it too

brilliant

He's going through a good spell at the moment. I think his guts are cyclical. It's probably related to the moon or something.

no, but it's made it smell of farts and body odour.

been to a couple of clubs where it's been utter hell - eg : substance (place is really small and there's not much space to go smoke, so it gets a bit to crowded) and been to some where it's been fab - the subclub for example, never really noticed the dancefloor thinning in either case - a lot of people get sidetracked anyway smoking or not when they are caned - i can remember entire nights I've spent at the bar absently forgetting I'm meant to be listening or dancing :) heheh so I've not noticed a difference on that tip.

I've noticed a degree of bodilly smells, but as I dont' drink that much I find most people honk of beer too, so it's no real change there - and to be honest - It's worse in big pubs like the three sisters - man - that place reeks of fart.

i have noticed on thing that really bugs me more tho - poppers - i hate the smell of poppers, reminds me of being a teenager and soaking fag buts in the fluid and then collapsing having stuck the bloomin thing right up me hooter.

One thing that really annoys me about the ban is actually playing places tho, I simply can't do a whole hour without a fag while I'm playing and normally I'm used to smoking more fruity substances - so on that level I don't like it, sayign that tho - I've been finding I've been playing better cos I've got both hands free and amn't worrying about lighting up or whatnot so yeah - probably better for the old focus.
