That one's called Keep It Up , another one at the same kind of tempo which I like is called A Little Lost.

The B-side of Grace Jones' Slave to the Rhythm 12", a track called Jones The Rhythm which doesn't have any Grace Jones singing on it, very good. Jones also did a Joy Division cover which is worth looking up.

Soft Cell's Memorabilia, which I only heard recently, it counts because it's got a rap by a New Yorker on it.... It's on the Non Stop Ecstatic Dancing LP (so-called 1st ecstacy LP..), other good tracks on there as well as on its 'sister' album Non Stop Erotic Cabaret.

Material- bought the Seven Souls LP recently- a really badly pressed record but good songs, and includes a Bill Burroughs collab. as well as some Rammellzee.

the 1988 Deconstruction compilation: North- The Sound of the Underground, which includes a single : Annette: Dream 17 (if you don't like the vocals on that the B-sides of the single are really good),

anything produced by Bobby Orlando (I have a Divine LP- Jungle Jezebel- and 7"- bad transsexual rapping is top!! But again if you don't like the vox there are some great B-side instrumentals, one of which sounds JUST like New Order's best stuff, suspiciously so...)

speaking of which, the Arthur Baker mixes of New Order's Confusion from 1983 sound really ahead of their time,

obvious stuff that deserves a relisten: Eurythmics Touch (also an I
instrumental LP called Touch Dance) and Sweet Dreams.

Minimal Compact- Israelis in the Netherlands making amazing and varied stuff.

Laidback's White Horse (only listen to their other tracks for comedy value :) )

I'm looking forward to seeing this film. Arthur Russell is one of my favourite musicians. He only recorded during certain phases of the moon :) Nico's solo material is the only similar thing I can think off that was as far ahead of it's time as him.

A Little Lost & Keep It Up are excellent tracks. In The Light of the Miracle is probably my own personal favourite, but Springfield has been played a lot this year.

In fact, I've been slowly working on a track based on the very strange music on his World of Echoes album.

There's nothing exactly like him but related things that come to mind include Talking Heads, ESG & Liquid Liquid like you said but also Tom Tom Club too, Nico, B52s, Cabaret Voltaire, Atmosphere Strut Cloud One (Patrick Adams), James Chance & The Contortions, Tony Allen, James Mason, Cluster, Bauhaus, A Certain Ratio, Ian Dury, Musique, Cristina, Fela Kuti, Antena, Bill Laswell. Loads of one off tracks by various people, too many to mention.

There's various Ze records compilations, just about everything on that label was a must... and the Eurythmics 12" singles pretty much right up until 1985 always had insane B-side tracks... e.g.

For some of the other great disco producers try Patrick Adams. Patrick Adams was a great keyboard player too and I think that stands out in the same way as with Arthur Russells cello skills.

DC La Rue has some great disco tracks that are just really good songs too (e.g. Cathedrals). Leroy Burguss is a fantastic producer too.

Did you listen to his Country Album, 'Love is Overtalking Me'. It's really good, no cellos or disco much but great songs. World of Echo is probably more accessible than First Thought...for his more out there music.

Must buy that Patrick Cowley / Soccaras record this week. It sounds a bit more east coast than his more west coast hi-nrg sound. I might be playing a set at a boat party soon and Robot Children or some other Patrick Cowley should make an outing. Mind Warp is a great album too and Patrick Cowleys work with Sylvester was tops.

Other great wild disco like Arthur Russell that comes to mind is things like Rinder & Lewis - Lust / Anger.

Aye "Love is Overtaking me" has some amazing stuff on there, again just highlighting what a mind blowing talent he really was: My dad's a big folker so I to my shock have been more and more to that kind of thing as I've got older...

I'm assuming everyones heard the Black Devil stuff too: but worth a mention as we've been going down the disco route...was digging that "desire" album the other day on a newer tip too.
