Some paper trips can be pretty crappy, just like taking an e - I got some liquid a few years ago - and it was fucking awesome - I'm still not sure if I want to take any again - not that I'm scared or have been put off, but I think I've done everything I can do with acid.

The analogy I always use its that sesh on acid, is a bit like going round the back of your studio, pull out all the cables to all the boxes - chucking the cables in a big box. then over the next few months you'll slowly plug everything back in again - probably not the same way you had it plugged in before. You may have some ideas about rewiring something or you may have forgotton how you had it before - but whatever you plug your studio back together and get on with shit... acid is like doing that to your brain...

I’m trying to quit drugs at the moment; I’m find it really difficult. I’ve learnt that drugs, fundamentally, cannot change who you are. Drugs have helped me be more social and probably introduced me to loads of friends and I certainly wouldn’t be here or at any of the parties I’ve met some of you at if it wasn’t for drugs. But at the heart of I’m still the same person who has a great deal of difficulty with people.

I don’t want to go back to the way things were before and I really love music, and putting on parties but its absolutely the worst place to be.

Drugs are like escapism, you get to get away from being ‘you’ for a bit, but afterwards you have to be ‘you’ two or morefold… its like a pay-off. But there is a some good, as in this state I’ve come to realise a lot of good things. A few people here have said that drugs don’t make you paranoid, they just make you realise how things are (if that’s not nice then that might be/or induce paranoia – I reckon).

Maybe once I’ve sorted a few things out and I’m happy as me, then maybe I might be in a better position to take drugs, or maybe I won’t need them or they won’t work – I’m always a bit jealous of people who say that drugs don’t do anything for them – they are usually really sound people… that’s where I’m trying to get.

Any way I’m doing my confessional thing cos I’m really pissed off at myself for relapsing this weekend, but when I realised I was gonna have to do Friday and Saturday back-to-back my resolve collapsed and the irony is that it’s one of the rare moments when I used drugs to simply stay awake (or was I just looking for an excuse).

I've been in a club twice without being on anything, the first time was after I started taking pills and I did a straight edged night to prove that I wasn't coming back for more drugs, I was coming back for the music and the drugs were just part and parcel of a night out. That’s pretty much similar to my story. I don’t think I take drugs to boost my self confidence, but more to reduce my self consciousness about myself (maybe that’s the same). I worry about what other people think all the time – its like some nasty feedback loop. Drugs help get rid of that. Coke is particularly good at it.

Before taking drugs I would go out, with workmates and I wouldn’t/couldn’t talk to anyone. Post drugs and I have a lot more confidence, however, a psychiatrist told me something interesting a few years back (he was a friend of a friend – I wasn’t a patient) that seems to be more relevant. He said that under those circumstances that while the drugs had done a useful job in bringing me out of my shell (he also said that most psychiatrists would have used drugs in this situation anyway – legal, pharmaceutical ones). But the drugs were also in danger of becoming intrinsically linked to my new found self confidence, he had some fancy word for it, it was like a psychological trigger or something.

But I think to cover all bases and maybe help clear things up, I think people take drugs for lots of different reason, and many like emef take them for pure ‘recreational’ purposes, I think this is great and people should be free to do this. There’s no way I’m anti-drugs, far from it. I just feel that people who takes drugs need to be better prepared for the things that they are going to find out about themselves, if its all good then that great, but sometimes it isn’t and you have to work out what to do about that – some people totally spaz out, take more drugs, some people just carry on and ignore it. I’m determined to continue my self therapy. Please note this is my personal perspective, I don’t resent or want to bemoan people who do take and enjoy taking drugs.
