I've abducted her!

I have her tied up in a wheely bin in my garden...

I'm conducting an experiment to see how long a human can live on Pot Noodle and Spam Fritters...

...while living in a wheely bin in a garden.

I'm acting as control, I'm just eating the Pot Noodles and Spam Fritters in the comfort of my room...

Yo :)
Normal Service has been Resumed!
I've been underground for the w/e,
and discovered and tasted several things..
here's one: Yerba Maté - Green leaves, one makes into a drink - more caffeine than coffee, has several amino acids INCL. Tryptophan among others. Check out the list....

I was worried for a moment that you had left us music geeks, and our Jagermeister and ran off with a real ale enthusiast… :)

@IP do you like chocolate rice crispy cakes or chocalate corn flake cakes or chocolate shredded wheat birds nests with an egg in the middle?

invisibleplanet
26th March 2003, 11:17
No - I spent some time with a friend who is a Maté enthusiast.
I was quite cautious about trying it, it's quite bitter to taste, but after a few sips, i became accustomed to it, and would like to try more. The stimulant buzz is much cleaner/stronger than coffee, and when u look at all the nutrients in it, and smell how green it is...I'm going to order some asap.

26th March 2003, 12:03

did u check the Maté site?

Does anyone stock it in the UK? - it looks quite expensive - $55/pound for the tea bags - (is that a mistake). Cos the loose tea is about $9-12/pound - still expensive.

Tea is so expensive in the US, like 4 or 5 times the price for a mingin' box of PG or Tetley, my mate when into a specialist tea shop in Seattle and they had boxes of PG Tips for about 4 bucks - and they even had the special offer 99p special offer price printed on them...

I think most countries have high tax on tea, like coffee, but in the UK we don't, something to do with the East India Company and all that cafuffle around the time of the Opium Wars - I think - I can't remember the details...

Good ,let those dongles pay through the nose for a cuppa.

I sipped the brewed loose tea from a gourd...called a 'bombilla' (i think!)
https://store.guayaki.com/store/images/categories/All_gourds_Photo_web.jpg

the tea is made with water which hasn't reached the boil. Immediately upon adding the water, the Maté frothed.
It tasted so green...and i could feel the coffee-like effect within 10 minutes of tasting it.

IMO, the price is not expensive.... Natural tryptophan is a great spirit lifter, and as a hardened coffee drinker, I'm going to purchase some, and make the switch.
Maté comes from South America, and you can be sure the money goes to the growers.

My Maté-loving friend may have a better deal than the site which I posted for infos, but it would cost more in the UK. I believe it's best to buy direct from the growers, and anyways, the S.American economy is severely fucked atm, so it's best to buy direct.

I have had this and found it far too bitter.. i guess i may try it again to see if i like it.

invisibleplanet
26th March 2003, 13:07
I was cautious also, however, it's about as bitter as one of my kick ass coffee's, which I make every morning, so I think it's worth it to try it again ;)

The nutrient list are astounding...the testimonials don't seem over--the-top, and i can't wait to get my own supply.

I hate caffeine it makes me really ill, I'm fine with amphetamine though strangley enough.

invisibleplanet
26th March 2003, 15:23
Amphetamine is dangerous., and illegal.

Maté has no side effects, and is not illegal.

I hate caffeine too, makes me anxious and paranoid.
I once had a comedown from those pro-plus pills you buy in drugstores.

welcome back lady. i missed you.

i find that coffee has a worse effect on me than any stimulant. it gives me palpitations and makes me feel sick

baba
26th March 2003, 18:09
I can't function unless I've had 3 cups of strong black coffee in the morning. I've started smoking again too which is bad but I love the full on 1st thing brown toxin stimulant buzz. I gave them both up for a period and discovered that i'm naturally really slow. I feel like caffeine and fags are a supplement to my personality. If I'm at home all day I'll sit in front of my puter chaining the fags and coffee - feel like poo but will get loads of writing and thinking done. rarara. cough! cough!

I can only remember that it tasted rather bitter but i imagine if i tried it again i'd probably be into it.....

LEFTHANDLOU

I've had the Argentinian version of it, and it was pretty good. Strong and a bit gritty. I like the cup and straw, but the filter on the straw was not doing a good job of keeping the small particles out, so it was a bit pasty

Hmm, the extra details here, that have made the whole drink somewhat less appetising - surely it can be filtered before serving...?

LEFTHANDLOU
27th March 2003, 19:29
Well there is a traditional way of drinking it. I think IP posted the cup that it is served in. The cup has a metal straw with a strainer or filter at the end. But is the herbs are powdery then it gets through the filter. So its a bit gritty. I would think that if the leaves are not too crushed then this would not be such a problem.

The Maté I tasted was not unpleasant in it's texture...it smelled so green....it was really quite invigorating, and so as soon as I can, I will order a bag of loose tea, and give up my copious coffee addiction, and replace it with Maté.

Speaking smelling of green - anyone ever drink wheatgrass juice... its good stuff...

invisibleplanet
28th March 2003, 13:13
no, never tried wheatgrass juice b4..

also, whilst away, i was overwhelmed by the Anish Kapoor Sculpture at the Tate Modern,
http://www.tate.org.uk/modern/exhibitions/kapoor/

and saw Dali's Narcissus close up for the first time....seeing details which I had not been aware of before...

also was transfixed by Jan Svenckmajer's Animation.... I think it was called Dimensions of Dialogue, but I'm not certain.

Tryptophan is a protein precurser to seratonin...(it turns into seratonin in the body)
seratonin is the hormone that is used when you're happy or calm or just feeling good....
it's also what is depleted when people are in depression or that have anxiety disorders...
Yerba Mate means killer weed...lol..
There is a really good tea by Celestial Seasonings( I don't know if you get that over there) called Morning Thunder...If you can find it I highly recommend it..
also there is a way to strain it completely and if you're going hiking or doing some kind of strenous activity... mix it w/ water in a jug w/ ice to keep it cool and drink off of it alll day...very refreshing and the bitter taste just dilutes into the water, so you don't taste it..I had some made for me by a friend when we went hiking one year...
I like it cause caffeine in any form(I can't drink coffee or sodas)makes my seriously ill..I get jittery and nauseous...but not w/ Yerba Mate...It just makes you feel awake and alert w/ out the edgyness from caffiene...so I recommend it to anyone who can't drink coffe or cokes...

i'm shall be wending my way home shortly, via some grafitti sites which i want to take fotos of. i found this landmark image of icarus (?) which i use as a signpost to let me know i'm near to the Horse Hospital. i went there on Friday to check the Contemporary Wardrobe Collection out. (more on this later!). For anyone who may be interested, an exhibition has just opened there, this weekend:

The Bogside Artists

FREE DERRY COMES TO LONDON
September 8th - 4th October 2003, Mon - Sat 12 - 6
Private View Saturday September 6th, doors 7.30pm
The Horse Hospital is honoured to present Northern Ireland’s The Bogside Artists.
The group, comprising of Tom Kelly, Kevin Masson and William Kelly, are famous for their murals in the area of Derry, Northern Ireland, known as Free Derry Corner. These large-scale murals explicitly depict key images of the Troubles in the city since 1968. This exhibition of their work is a chronicle of those events within the struggle that the artists consider to have been the most significant during the last thirty years.

Wish I'd gone to Trufest now. Although I really wouldn't have made it into work today, which would have been very bad indeed.

Oh well, there is always next time.
