what are jit and juke?

Kode 9 said something similar when I interviewed him. There's also Kuduro in Angola and Portugal, Hyphy in Bay Area etc... and new wave acts like Modeselektor, Jahcoozi, Peaches, Uffie, Ghislain Poirier, Smashback, Gabriel Olegavich, Sinden, Herve etc etc, all with a booty influence to one degree or another.... "Revolution" is a bit of a silly way of putting it, but there's some good music around, which is rough and ready, jacking, soundsystem style... which has to be a good thing right? I mean I love micro-produced hi tech music as much as anyone, or I wouldn't be on No Future, but sometimes you just want raw filth.

According to Urbandictionary (not the most trustworthy source) Jit comes from "Jitterbug" which makes sense... nice bit of dance lineage there!

What is Kuduro then Knid?

drop
29th July 2007, 17:10
isn't kuduro an african take on baile?

V Knid esq

It's like Angolan ghetto booty... sort of like Baile Funk but instead of electro the beats are more like techno, and instead of Brazilian percussion there's African bits in there.

these sounds are so similar
that it seems that there really is a new world order
like a one world culture that bypasses old cultural values
and replaces them with new ones that make more sense to the coming generations.
that is the definition of a technocracy
new technology changes the rules so that new rules have to be invented

maybe i'm just being a little too utopian
i guess thats why i used the word "revolution" even though it might be a little strong for the moment
but what happens when these different movements start to link together

probably nothing

As long as people have two legs and arses music will sound like this.

V Knid esq
29th July 2007, 20:44
even if they mutate it will sound like this...

"two ass ass four titties titties, two ass ass four titties titties" etc

Oh no they're not. Wash yer ears out.

drop
30th July 2007, 16:57
oh yes they do.

i mean on a basic level they're based exclusively on a generic electronic music base (electro, house, techno), the main difference is how they set themselves apart by using elements that are exclusive to whatever region or culture they come from.
jit (electro)
juke (house)
reggaeton (dancehall, bomba)
b-more (electronic music in the baltimore/DC area has always been about breaks)
dubstep/grime (dub, electro)

the exceptions are baile, which is purely electro (at least what i've heard) and
kuduro, which knid points out is "africanized" with local percussion.

Oh no Carioca Funk has loads of definitely Brazilian influence - you hear lots of Samba / Batucada percussion in it, and the rapping style is very distinctive... plus it also is distinctive by its ransacking of western pop/rock/dance hooks... I've heard tracks that sample KLF, Eurythmics, Van Halen, all sorts.

If you think so. I was thinking mainly about skweee though. To my ears it sounds different to all the other stuff on your list. That's why I pointed it out in a thread about innovative music. How about the skweeesound? How is that similar to the others on your list?

i haven't heard any skweee
not because i didn't want to
the link you put up for the mix wasn't working for me at the time
i'll try again and get back to you

is skweee really unique to a specific region or city?

This should work:

afaik it's just a Sweden/Finland ting, and no-one in any other countries has produced any.

I always find it a bit desperate to need to try and connect disparate scenes, it's kind of obvious and futile at the same time. Same sort of mentality that produces conspiracy theories.

Drill and Bass left its scars.

I still see Johnny Cigarettes face in the black water.
