I've been invited to go and see The Editors in Brixton in October. Are they any good? Loads of the kids love them at school, but they also love wank like Bloc Party, so I could be onto a loser. Someone did tell me they sound a bit like Joy Division, though. Will I like them?

That's being more than generous to them, although you can definitely hear Joy Division influences in some of their tracks but it's pretty watered down. I listened to the album after my mates kid brother recommended it and apart from a couple of the singles (Munich and All Sparks) it doesn't really stand up to repeated listening. I recommended Joy Division to him in return and he was blown away and is still listening to them. Hardly surprising, though, as Joy Division are one of the greatest bands of all time imho. In fact, I've just now been listening to Warsaw and it's still fucking brilliant.
Dunno what that tells you about Editors though. Erm, a couple of their singles are ok - in fact, I'd go so far as to say I like them in a disposable pop fodder kinda way - and better than most of the other spangly indie guitar bands around at the moment, but that's a bit like saying one STD is better than another. If you set your expectations fairly low and don't expect a life changing experience, you'll probably enjoy yourself.

I'm quite enjoying the tracks, but as you say, it's not going to change my life. Think I might go and see them, as it should be fun with a few pints inside me, and with friends.

As for not being able to make a decision by myself, yes, I can, but I couldn't remember any of their songs, and the 30 second last.fm clips weren't enough to get an idea of what it sounded like. I don't see the problem with asking other peoples' opinions on stuff, though. Of course, I may be wrong and it's a massive social faux pa. Can anyone tell me if it is or not?
