I went in the spring. A silvery marmoset twitched my trouser leg. It was magic.

Can you actually get that close to them? Cool. I once met a chimp. Pretty scary how human her eyes looked.
yeah - the whole primate similarity thing that you hear Attenborough and crew going on about on the telly is a lot more apparent when you see them up close. The gorillas were really... err primatey.

Bristol Zoo is good. Well as good as they get anyway.

It's all about Monkey World (http://www.monkeyworld.org/) for the primate experience.

There's two sections where you can - one squirrel monkey enclosure where they're right in front of you with no fence, but there's a enclosed tropical world thing with monkeys, sloths and marmosets - there are elevate walkways and if the tiny marmosets are feeling brave, they come on to the walkways and run about chasing each other.

Thats good, we're taking our 2 year old there on Friday. He's just started naming loads of animals so he is going to love it.
the last zoo i went to i fed a load of kangaroos till the bag of kangafood i bought at the zoo got too much for them and i dropped it before the gaggle of roos kicked the shit out of me
i tried to outstare a koala bear but it beat me, they're not so laid back
used to go to blackpool zoo (http://www.blackpoolzoo.org.uk/) quite a lot back in the rave days... the penguins rock
blackpools model village (http://www.nothingtoseehere.net/2006/06/blackpool_model_village_garden .html) is a laugh on acid

i was well disappointed last time i went to london zoo. they don't have the funding they did when i was a kid and it shows. far too many empty enclosures and mental leopards for my liking

One of my only regrets in life is that I never went to Monkey World whilst living in Bournemouth.
Heard good things though, doesn't look as bleak as going to visit mentally ill animals in cages :)

the monkey world website is great I like the wee back stories to each different ape - shame on those spanish and their forcing monkeys to wear shoes!

Yeah, it's quite nice really - they have loads of space to run around in and lots of stuff to climb on or swing from, so they generally seem quite happy..........or as happy as you could reasonably expect a bunch of drug-addict monkeys to be. A new life that doesn't involve having spikes stuck in their heads or being forced to chain smoke fags or being battered by Mary Chipperfield probably also helps them be a bit more chipper than your average zoo monkey.
And one of the alpha males in one of the chimp groups is called Paddy, so that scores an extra approval point from me. :)
