yes, agreed. but when people say these things they very rarely mean them. and the fact that they don't mean them means that they are saying them for another reason which is usually for humour's sake. personally, i would find it rather funny if a friend said to me 'i hope yer plane crashes' as i was about to get on one cos i'd know (or hope?) they didn't mean it.

I know about drawing the line, I know about crossing the line and how you can make crossing the line funny and how you can push people to see where their line is, see how many lines they have and what happens when you cross them.

I have friends who do this in a macho way, out on the piss in a pub, now they're funny - and they really push it - when you're risking a kicking now that's funny - but Phil, you are just boring - its so dull. I don't know who you are, or what you do, but most of the time I imagine you as a mean-spirited, very spoilt adolescent child sat at his expensive computer... being dull and petulant...

secondly, in my post which i believe is the stem of all this bad feeling, i was pointing out that i thought phil's comment was funny in terms of its darkness and that dark humour is generally funny. by mentioning beckett, shakespeare and burroughs i was hoping to divert the conversation into a more friendly one concerning such artists and their afore-mentioned dark humour, not proliferate more bad feeling.
