I'd also recommend www.oaklysound.com (http://www.oaklysound.com)
Done a great job on my octave kitten.
I get all my stuff serviced at www.synthrestore.co.uk
Adrian who runs it is a really nice bloke. He also services all of Ed DMX and Genesis' stuff, if that sways you.
What is the problem with it? I fixed my own one when the filters were fucked, it was pretty simple, just a case of replacing the sliders. If it's something like that, I'd be happy to fix it for you for cheap.

hte reason i said dont use electrofix for whoever bah'd me is because i sent them a sampler knowing exactly what the problem was (the scsi socket had come loose on the board inside and would make and intermittent connection, usually just before saving, thus locking up and losing what id just done), under warrantee or id have done myself
they sent it back saying they couldnt find the problem even though id written detailed instructions on how to replicate it and it must be my lead...even though id bought a new one and borrowed several others to eliminate it from the possible causes
next time i sent it with the lead so they could prove me wrong and sent the lead back with a sticker on saying faulty as if that was the problem all along when i could quite clearly see they had resoldered the fucking socket after realising that i was right in the first place
this doesnt sound too bad but the amount of phone calls made chasing this up and frustration at their lack of concern pissed me right off and i had to borrow another sampler to do a gig with as they took so long.

Sh101s are fixable, excluding the CPU.
What are the symptoms?

When I turned it on there was a constant quite quiet tone and nothing worked (volume knob, sliders etc), then when moving one of the sliders a loud crack and some broken tones followed by random clicks and pops and silence when pressing the keys. If you even gently tap the top it crackles. It did make some reasonable sounds and the various sliders seemed to have their desired effect but very intermittant.
possibly dry solder joints, or even a cracked circuit board. wouldn't like to say if I could fix it, so best not to bother with me. If Julian can't help you, I really do recommend Synth Restore, though.

I once borrowed a friend's 101 - it had a horrible hissy crackly thing going on, I dropped it accidentally on the floor and to this day it's worked 100% - minus the horrible noises.
Strange machines.

Sounds a little more 'advanced' than the standard 101 fader issues then : /
Do you have any CV & GATE controllable equipment? Testing the output of the GATE and CV outputs would give insite, as those output from points fairly early on in the signal path.
If you get response from them as you would expect then the fault is somewhere in the synthasis section, whereas if theyre not working as desired, then that could possibly be more problematic.
.
Another test would be to try controlling the 101 from the GATE input, with the noise fader turned right up and the filter open. If that then sounds as youd expect then, again, that points to the control system being dammaged. (so far as i remember, the GATE input signal runs direct to the envelope - i dont think it runs through the microprocessor, but i wouldnt bet my life on it without studing the schematics)
If it still sounds screwey then its the synthasis section...
The fact that things change when you manipulate the top is possibly hopefull.
Any idea as to any condition that may have bought on the fault(s)?
