Thank pencilneck for recommending The Straight Story to me..

loved it...Finally a movie that Sissy Spacek isn't playing the same
character...I really liked her in this one and the story was absolutely sad, touching and beautiful...
my favorite part was when he was talking to all the young guys and
says concerning the good things of being old,
"knowing how to separate the wheat from the chaff and how to let go of the little things"
worst thing of being old, "remembering when you were young"

I also got to watch the movie Volver by Pedro Almovodar - His movies are always great....but this one for some reason left me thinking that there should have been more to the story...but I think he did this intentionally since it's just a snapshot of these women's lives.....I love how Almovodar is able to get into the secret parts of womens lives..he seems to genuinely understand women...
My favorite part was when Penelope Cruz sings in this beautiful flamenco style voice...I cried a bit...

my favourite bit of the straight story is when lvin's reminiscing with the other old dude in the bar about the things they'd seen and done during WW2, i always have a wee greet at that bit.

yeah..it was pretty sad...
how difficult it was for them to talk about it..
reminded me of my dad when he 'talks' about Vietnam...(not very often..)
that same dark shadow in the face...slow manner of speaking
w/ that distant regretful look...

I like the bit where Penelope Cruz is doing the washing up. Hummana hummana hummana.

But no, I know what you mean about a little lack of depth or something like that - it wasn't a patch on All About My Mother which is my favourite of his films that i've seen.

he's got great depth w/ it comes to the psyche of women..but in this movie I sorta felt like it just ended a bit abruptly...like I wanted to know what happened w/ the woman w/ cancer and what the mother thought about Penolope's daughter killing her husband...etc...I just felt a desire to know more about their situation...

All about my Mother is an awesome one...:)
I just saw on his website www.vivapedro.com that they are reshowing all his movies again and I noticed that I haven't seen a few of them:

Woman on the Verge of Nervous Breakdown
Flower of my Secret
and Law of My desire..

have you seen any of these??

They're all good.

The flamenco scene was good, and I really thought it sounded like my favourite flamenco singer (actually, the only one whose name I can remember) did the overdubbing, and there she was, in the credits, Estrella Morente. Top singer.

The washing up scene was also good but for OTHER REASONS.

Ah...thanks PJ...I had been going back and forth between whether it was her or not...I'm gonna look up Estrella Morente..definitely worth having some of music...her voice is gorgeous...:)
