what the fuck does he use, equipment-wise?
specifically, for looping shit up. how does he sync it with the sequences on the drum machine/ sequencer?
obviously a lot of effects going down, octavers, distortion, delays n that. is there a laptop amongst all of that?
good last night. crazy beautiful type of business i mean really sweet then really extreme all mixed up.

he uses gaffer tape to attatch a tandy mic to his neck and feeds it through metasynth which in turn is running through reaktor, this is all fed in to his mpc2000 which is triggered by jeremy beadles wither hand.

whos talking about talent? I think he is very talented. I would say however the word genius should be reserved. for extreme cases. Like Einstein. if jamie lidell is a "genius" what does that make stevie wonder or miles davis??

in all seriousness i know he was an early adopter of Metasynth.
bitconductor
13th March 2003, 15:06
he feeds the mic he sings into into something which samples and loops it. he presses some hardware to control the loop in that he can make the loop 1/2 as long. it can also make the sample/ loop go backwards. he sings other lines which also loop too.

oh ah yeh, with a hardware controller or two (has wasn't on a mouse), and the sequencer... must be fairly secret (or boring, or in the wrong forum... or both). i'm bored myself now. i'd like to see him do it again though. what a charming outfit

take no notice of phil (a well known music board troll), bitconductor - he's been banned from just about every forum he's ever visited for his ott comments and general unfriendliness...he's only still here because we don't want to set a precendent, and ban his sorry ass outta here.

came on in a parka with football socks. later he took off the parka and - lo and behold - tutu and orange top with shoulder pads. thin silky white scarf to play with. i think the skirt came off eventually.
he scrubbed up for herbert though - black/ grey suit business

weirdly.. i don't wanna say "attractive"... appropriate, certainly. went well with the dancing and 'rapping' (manic 'newcleus' style) definitely.

cool pics of myk when he was our drummer for a few shows...it was great, not that our usual drummer isnt also but matt is an old mate and him, james stephenson (bass) and jamie used to be in a funk band called Balzac together for a couple of years in brighton so it was a nice reunion
he's a wicked drummer

Jamie is fucking great live, fucking inspiring. He wasn't wearing any crazy shit when I saw him in LA, but he was making some of the most retarded lovely funky shit I have ever heard. And the best part was he was having such a good time and it really added to the crowds mood. He was by far the best part of the Nesh show I caught here.

hmm jamie as a genius... he is certainly possessed of it.. but i dont rekon u can assess him like miles and mrwonder...with that kind of retrospect etc... but shit man this guy is the most exciting live act around .. and can sing so fucking well yet doesnt lapse back into its conventions but throws intoa deranged dialogue with technology.. he is the ONLY guy ive come across who really inserts the human into the machine. lidell live is a madkindafreedom. His prescence is fucking vital on the electronic scene... when i saw him at return to the electrowerkz.. half the crowd heard a few seconds and fucked off to hear richie devine muttering words like "shite".. as much as love that stuff... do they know what they missed!!!!!!!?.. fucking boring purists.. heads so far up their dsp manuals that theyre terrified of more direct human expression.. as for his records... i reckon his best is a way off... as much as i dig them.. that latest s_collider is just beyond most peoples understanding that i play it to... its too subtle.. you only get the effigies of the songs but suprisingly it gets under your skin like nothing else.
WHERE IS LIDELL's NEXT ALBUM?
