vestax make a record deck which cuts acetates, you put a line level source in and use their special acetates (£3 a go I heard) and you can cut your own records.

yeah but that vestax cutter costs about $10,000.
@ 7875: check out discmakers out of pensauken NJ. they have a big place I have heard. sonic groove gets all there stuff done there.

some guys here chipped money in to get that thing and then offer local people the opportunity to have their own vinyl cut at an affordable price - in the end they sent the thing back and forgot the whole thing, because in their own words the sound & pressing quality "sucked ass".

I'd be wary of the vestax...

@andreas: a dubplates isn't pressed..it's cut!! the grooves are cut onto acetat-foil, and that's why it's only playable a few times (30-50) because it's waering out while playing.
you can get a dubplate through dubplates&mastering in berlin but there's no pressingplant in berlin. there're only mpo in cologne, r.a.n.d. in leipzig and pallas southgermany.
also, even if you only get a dubplate cut, there're will be kinda mastering...or better, the sound will be optimized.
the prices for dubplates swing between 50-80 euros, depending on if it's a 10" or 12" and so on...

...isn't the 'fatness' of a pressing more donw to the mastering??
the best people you can get are THE EXCHANGE and the others (forgot the name) who did most cuts for Rephlex, but they are expensive.
a very good one is Dubplates&Mastering in Berlin too.

and a good pressingplant is Pallas in germany, as they have the best vinyl quality, but they don't press without the label being officially registered.
curvepressing is quite good, but they're a way more expensive than mpo & pallas and the czech place...

From what I've heard Lawrie at Curve Pusher is one of the worlds finest mastering engineers on the planet and may people swear by his talents.
