View Full Version : Could anyone in the UK get a PC game for me?
I wondered if any of the Brits here would be willing to get a UK Special Edition of a PC game for me, which is not available in Germany? Any help would be really appreciated, especially since it's limited, so time's virtually already running out... :)
can't you order it from somewhere like amazon.co.uk or play.com?
if not, what game is it?

Loz: German politicians just found out that everything they did wrong in the last 10 years can easily be blamed on computer games... Some are even considering banning certain games, although they're already not legally available to people under 18, and no advertisements can be done for it... Double ban! :D
So I doubt a multinational company such as Amazon would let you bypass this and let you order uncut originals, they're afraid of the next propaganda "report" in German TV, like: "We show you how easy it is for your child to order this banned, violent junk at Amazon UK..." :D
The junk I want is the brilliant Shooter/RPG "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow Of Chernobyl", programmed in Ukraine btw. The special edition they sell here is far less special.
be warned
all my computer gaming friends concur - STALKER is absolute toss.
In German, you would think "toss" means "ein großer Wurf", which is something positive, but obviously...
I know what I'm doing, already playing the game, now I made the decision it's so stunning I want this box on my shelf.
I read some people are having problems running it, under Vista or with 8000 series cards. Also the first hours are quite hard and frustrating, but then it gets better and better. Most of all, the atmosphere is unique.

most of the complaints I've heard are that the AI is rubbish, ie they stand still when you shoot at them, line up in doorways so you can kill them one at a time, that sort of thing.
I don't play much in the way of computer games these days, just the odd strategy one like Civilisation, but a lot of my mates are big into FPS games.
But if you're already playing it and loving it, then yes, you should buy it.
The AI is a mixed thing - on one hand opponents take long walks around you to suddenly surprise you from behind or through windows of a building (it's huge areas there), they wait behind corners and even climb ladders. On the other hand sometimes it's true they notice you very late. They only line up in a doorway when they can't get behind you (dead end), but that's realistic, they have to try something at least... ;)

its all about Crysis :)
Bah, the so-called "excellent AI" in Far Cry was a joke IMO. With binoculars I could see enemies from a distance behind a palm, ducking and standing up, ducking and standing up... in an endless loop. Very funny but not very impressive. lol As for Crysis, I wait and see. Developers like to show movies done on machines nobody can afford or on hardware that's not even released, let's see how it looks like on a normal machine...
The next sure hits are ET:Quake Wars and Bioshock.
A.Wake is still a phantom as far as I'm concerned. Nothing more than a handful of screenshots and the fact that it's one of the first DX10 games.

nice phantom :)
OK, must've been away that day. Still it proves what I said above, they did this show more than 1/2 year ago and even now you can't buy those QuadCores (AFAIK AMD will release theirs first). I also would like to know which graphics workstation they used for the landscape. ;) Generally, the closer the release gets, the more 'realistic' the trailers get, usually uglier...

It's not an insult, it's just that being a computer game player I only believe in what's real.
it's all about Duke Nukem 4ever.
Sure, if I wasn't playing shooters I'd count on that one too.

even now you can't buy those QuadCores.
you can buy a Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad but the title has to have n-number performance scaling to make it worth it. AMD QuadFX has whack performance - the only thing on the market they even have a chance with is Operton.

Are all your friends total Counterstrike junkies?
tbh everyone always complains about the AI - I mean even the AI is HL2 was a bit toss, I don't know why people have such high expectation (probably marketing twoddle), but we don't have automatic soldiers in real life, so why should people expect that there home PC should be any more capable.

after you shoot and wound them, they sell their stories to the sun newspaper for £150,000.
