Was wondering if everyone here was happy with their god given name, any nicknames they have and how they are labelled in general.
I personally hate my name – this is partly due to the fact that a certain Ian Beale, a character from a British Soap Opera has largely dragged it through the mud and proved what a complete bunch of shits us Ians must be… Its also such a weak sound. I heard once that there’s a thing in posh bits of the states, where people called Ian, pronounce their name like Iron. The computer game I’m working on means I’ve researched loads of Russian names – Russian names are cool – why can’t I have a name like Vadim… :)
What does everyone else think of their names… and has anyone actually changed or thought of changing their name… ???
PS: My surname is even stupider, but I won’t go into that…

my first name is Ian as well. when I was little kid I hated my name because it wasn't popular at all in the states, so I got made fun of a lot. but as I grew older and the name became more common I began to like it more and more. now I have no problem with it. and I actually like the way my full name sounds. I think it sounds rather strong. the one thing that bugs me is the stupid americans who still can't pronounce it.
people still pronounce it "I-an" as opposed to "E-an". as for that Iron pronunciation I have not heard about that. but there are people who do pronounce it as "I-an" on purpose. I went to school with a kid who did that. I used to laugh my ass off because his parents didn't know any better and he didn't know the correct pronunciation for his name. now my new boss at work he has a hard time saying my name. he calls me "E-yawn". but I haven't tried to correct to him.

I-an, Iron I meant the same thing - it was some bunch of posh upper state new yorkers, perhaps with a bit of a drawl its sounds like Iron - I think they rather like it like that...

I never equated it to posh society. I usually chalked it up to dumb americans who see the name in a book or something and didn't know how to say it correctly. I will never forget my first day of seventh grade when I went to history class. my teacher is doing roll and calls me "I-an Sheridan". I say no ma'am, my name is pronounced "E-an". she asks, 'are you sure?'. a little taken a back I tell her I am positive.
fast forward now to my second day of class. my history teacher is doing roll she gets to my name and says it correctly. but then she begins to tell me how she did a little research on my name. she found that in scotland they pronounce it "E-an" and in england people say it "I-an". again completely dumbfounded I tell her that "in the entire world people proncounce it "E-an" and only in america do people say it "I-an". I hope that people have stopped calling their children "I-an".

i never really gave much thought to my name. i do wonder sometimes if people with more common names get weirded out or always perk their ears when they hear their name being called out to someone else. i never hear my name except for when people are talking to me, and when i do hear my name in someone else's conversation it weirds me out.

my real name is Jan and i never had much worries about it myself. but some people happen to stretch it as if there was an 'h' behind the 'a' and i hate that. i got angry about that few times in the past and asked people if they were not able to speak three fucking letters properly. now i don't care about it any more, whatever they speak it.
it's just my name.

Ruben A
12th March 2003, 20:02
"In the person of Christ you will find out for example in Genesis 49:3 where the name Ruben is mentioned, Ruben means ‘behold the son’. Jesus is the Son to whom we are to look. That is in Hebrews chapter 12:2. The infirmity of Ruben is that he is unstable as water, but Jesus bore that infirmity. On the cross he bore the suffering of the infirmity of Ruben. Then Jesus becomes the intercessor and he intercedes for us that we would grow up into him that we would not be children tossed to and fro with every wind of doctrine.
Then our inheritance is life in Ruben and Jesus becomes our life and that is in the book of Colossians."
Why should I change my name?? :)

my name is harvey, hence the username: r_v (sounds a bit like harvey phonically but its quicker to type).
i used to get a bit of stick in school for having a slightly unusual name so i didn't like my name much when i was younger. but now i really like it.
its strange actually; harvey is a fairly well known name yet i've never in my life met another harvey.
according to behindthename.com, it means:
From a surname which was derived from the Breton first name Haerviu, which meant "battle worthy" from Breton haer "battle" and viu "worthy". The first name was introduced to England by Breton settlers after the Norman Conquest

My name is daniel, pretty bloody plain and boring, I hate going to the supermarket because every third person is called daniel and people will call 'daniel' and then about 7 people go 'what?' I always wanted to have a name like 'jack hammer' or 'max power' or 'john steel'......that would be cool. My middle name is james, so a lot of people call me dj......but most call me mui cuz my last name is muir...

My name is Michael Kelvin Ho. I didn't use to like the Kelvin bit because people took the piss. But now I appreciate it because my grandfather gave me it. He also gave me my chinese name, and he called me Kelvin because it's phonetically similar to my chinese name (which means "reputation of the Ho family" - a bit of a burden ;) )

no no, you should go by 'my friend holger'.
so on a saturday night when your playing and people are talking about where they are going that night they will say 'we are going to tresor to see my friend holger'. it will add a nice friendly tone than the old 'we are going to see dj big ego' .

Jessica Laural Portz
JESSICA f English
Pronounced: JES-i-ka
This name was first used in this form by Shakespeare in his play 'The Merchant of Venice', where it belongs to the daughter of Shylock. Shakespeare probably based it on the biblical name Iscah meaning "YAHWEH beholds" in Hebrew, a minor character in Genesis.
