I'm personally in favour. The hippocratic oath means doctors have to keep people alive as long as they can, this does not take into account the quality of life of the patient, it is an absolute oath. My aunt is dying of pancreatic cancer at the moment, my grandfather died two years ago of lung cancer, my father stayed with him in Hong Kong and couldn't bear it - he didn't recognise his own father, he was raving and paranoid from all the drugs they were pumping him full of - he thought the nurses were poisoning him. I felt guilty at the time, but I wished he was dead. There was no chance of him living - why prolong suffereing like that - you wouldn't do it to a pet animal.

I would imagine he may have, having lived in HK most of his life and being a cinema-goer, I never actually asked him.

This comes from a dutch theologian (forgot his name) - I'm not religious myself, but I like the reasoning:

"Life is a present of God -- but if the present turns sour, He shouldn't mind you returning it should He?"

This relates to when a gay or lesbian person "comes out".
Has anyone ever known a gay or lesbian person "go back in"?

some of my neighbours scream for euthanasia... guess i'm doing them a favour if i..

no honest answer now: i think all this talking about killing people by letting them go is bullshit. if a person is so sick (without any chance of recovering) that he just wants this episode life to be over, why shouldn't he or his family have the right to say stop. it's not the family that should be called euthanasians, it's the doctors and responsible polititians that should be named torturer.

i was doing my commnity service in hospital and i've seen too much of this crap. people who were clinically dead were held alive just to test out new machines and/or medicaments, for months sometimes. that is sick! in the end the patient turns to a welcome customer first, then to a medical testing ground.

hypocrates rotates in his grave.

Filfla is off the coast of Malta. It has been closed since about 1995 as a nature preserve. The British used to use it for target practice, in which it lost about 30% of its size!

People often ask Jeff and Faye, "Why Malta?" or "How did you choose Malta for your anniversary trip?"

do you know these people?

$eye
12th March 2003, 15:01
ah shit that's the other thing i know about Malta...i just remembered...the island used to be full of tiny elephants....no shit it really did....pigmy elephants...they evolved to be small because on Malta they didn't have no natural predators so it's fuckin in-efficient to be a massive elephant when you don't have to as you have to eat alotta bloody food when you is that big in it....so they evolved into real little guys about the size of a pig.... but alas then some snakes or was it Dutch people arrived and they ate all the tiny elephants....and made them into bags .

p.s. that last bit may have less truth within than the rest of this bit. (i thought i was gettin a bit serious see.)

12th March 2003, 15:02

bloody dutch, they killed the people on easter island, freaks.

didnt tiny elephants evolve from mice? I think thats right, mice look like elephants, in a weird kind of way, if you skwint your eyes and stuff like that.

MUX
12th March 2003, 15:04
that small elephant story is true si

Elephants on Malta?
There are no elephants on Malta, though there are fossilized remains of dwarf elephants at Ghar Dalam, near Birzebbuga. These remains prove that during the Pleistocene period the island was still connected to Sicily but cut off from North Africa. Apparently the animals got "trapped" on the island as they retreated towards warmer regions.
