Are awesome !

They kinda covered the whole spectrum when i caught them live, started out real chilled and then worked the tempo to the outter reaches.....

I feel plaids music is a little weak these days, back in the day they were a lot better, seems they have found their selling formula.

i would agree. although i still like what they do now i must say that i like their older stuff a bit more, 'rest proof clockwork' being the big peak imo, and old black dog of course.
maybe that's because they went pretty digital recently (REAKTOR i think).

i only saw them live once a few years ago and i wasn't that impressed. they were rocking which was cool but in fact they were playing allready released tracks, all slightly varied of course. so they maybe missed the chance of a live-situation a bit for me. then again that concert was on a tour and they might have had a bad evening.

I've seen them play many times over the years, if your a fan of their music then you'll really enjoy seeing them live.

Although they have had a few hickups. re: Dedbeat 2002.

They where absolutly amazing at Sonar 2001.

pille'ocheoni
11th March 2003, 14:51
plaid is a awsome duo. considering they live in two differnt parts of the world and transfer files. id say thats preety impressive, and one of them has the pleasure of being married to mira calix. so i bet creative time at home is a pretty cool experence

decadnids
11th March 2003, 14:53
@Pille, loads of people make music as duo's or as teams via the internet, its nothing special really.

pille'ocheoni

yeah i do it myself. so who do you think is better? * going to listen to decadnids tunes *

It wasn't a critisism it was a statement of fact.
its not a bad opinion either.
all I said that other people (and it seems you do this also) make musick over long distances, and that I don't see that as anything special.
don't see what your beef is mate....

its all subjective after all,
I just feel that their musick these days lacks a lot of the "soul" and the feeling and the emotional input of older stuff.

like I say it is all subjective, this is my view. {before someone else gets all bent out of shape}

Basic 2: The Revenge
13th March 2003, 12:30
I guess it is subjective. I felt I seen them play best in 95 and 97, and then not so well since then. A feel the same with their ideas. I guess I have this conversation about Black Dog a lot as well.

decadnids
13th March 2003, 12:33
have to agree with the Basic - I guess when you have been into a "group" of musick for a long time (since eary 90's) and you hear the change over time. Just feel the eary stuff was a lot more powerful.

decadnids
13th March 2003, 12:33
Speaking of Black Dog, the Unsavoury Production release (last year) I reckon was pretty good - with spoken word by Black Sifichi.

Basic 2: The Revenge
13th March 2003, 12:53
I'm not too sure about it (or if I have even heard it in it's entirity), but I loved Bytes and Spanners had good moments too (Frisbee Skip to name one).

decadnids
13th March 2003, 12:56
Yeah the Unsavoury Product is good, its a spoken word album, some people freak out about that "what someone speaks all over it".
I like it, its different, but has the feelings/
I liked music for adverts and short films - not many people I speak to are into that, but I thought it is a very good album.

Basic 2: The Revenge
13th March 2003, 13:07
I liked it, but that was just really Downie going it alone after Turner & Handley (sp?) went on to do Plaid. I looked on it as a different entity really, but good nonetheless. I loved that era in the early 90s though. B12's electro soma and all the other acts of that ilk releasing nice tunage too. Stasis - Inspirations (on Peacefrog) is a wicked album as well. They also did nice recs on that B12 label from Belgium too.

*nostalgia washing over Basic*

decadnids
13th March 2003, 13:44
b12 - totally wicked, one of my all time favourite.
both electro soma and time travel tourist are top albums.
their 12's on their own label were great too!!!!

i met a girl who does werk for sainsbury's the other day...she was very nice. She was a buyer for them. Today at werk i was given a pamphlet that instructed me what to do in the event of someone phoning me up and informing me that they have left a bomb in the building.
I am supposed to keep the person on the telephone as loong as possible and ask a series of questions. One of the questions i am suposed to ask the potential bomber is "what is your address?".
I found this very funny. What are we hoping to catch them off guard or something? "oh right, my address is ..."
The other questions are not much more sensible. Here we go.
1. Where did you put the bomb?

probable answer: it's in your building.

2. Why did you place the bomb?

probable answer: Because i am against imperialist America and the relentless greed and distruction caused by the west's foreign policies.

3. What is your name?

p.a: Mr barry thompson...

I personally have decided that if this scenario ever does arrise i will ask the following question.

"Well sir...if you were in my shoes, would you leg it now?"

went and saw them last nite as part of the warp US tour. i really didnt like their first couple of tracks (it was a hard task following up andy weatherall's blinding electro/breakbeat set), but after that they were wicked - cutting up destiny's child and almost getting a bit noodlesy at points.

as far as the night went as a whole, i loved it. the best crowd i have seen in nyc. most of the time it is either older folks who scratch their chin and dont dance or 14 year olds who carry around teddy bears and glow sticks. this was all the people in between.and everybody danced! a change from most nyc nites. givin me hope in america yet.... :)

Good News Kari, Just got me pumped up for tomorrow night. They are coming to LA. I'm stoked that you thought Weatherall's set was great, He is my favorite producer, and the main reason I'm going to the show tomorrow. How Was Prefuse?

karitek
27th March 2003, 19:57
prefuse was pretty cool. but i just heard nogutskik over the weekend and thought they were doing the same thing, but much better. but still, pretty damn cool music. weatherall rocked it though - definitely the highlight of the night - he even played 2 sets.
