I'm helping a mate out with his college project of making a pilot issue of a magazine, by writing a history of hardcore/rave/the-bit-between-acid-and-jungle for him. I'd love to hear your thoughts/stories on

- musical lineage: how did techno influence and how was it influenced by hardcore; what are the different offspring of hardcore; what were the different strands at the time etc
- geography: how was the scene different in different countries / regions
- drugs: where you from, what you on?
- vibe: how was it for you?
- the players: who was running tings?
- funny stories...
- etc.

cheers in advance

Knid

Musical Lineage: it was mixed I remember harcore anthems like Egyptian Empire Horns with fat 303 lines and 4/4 beats under the breaks, loads of samples of classic house anthems speeded up to mickey mouse speeds, early goldie stuff sounded really fresh, reinforced was my fave label at the time.

Geography: I went to exodus raves in the Luton/Midlands area, loads of cheesy quavers and Luton Bad Boys.

Drugs: Pills, speed, acid, ketamine - us kids couldn't afford coke ;)

Vibe: it was wicked, I had never felt as euphoric or released from inhibitions before, also it was about the only time you could approach Luton bad boys without getting a kicking.

Players: Exodus

Funny stories: when they nicked exodus before a rave, so every one went to luton to protest outside the station, we blocked the main dual carriage way through luton, took loads of pills and danced at the police for 6 hours - then went home and watched ourselves on the tele as police from 3 counties were drafted in. Ha Ha

When some guy was mugging people and selling dodgy drugs, so the crew tied him up fed him loads of acid and then hoisted him from a ceiling joist, stopped the party, announced what he had done and left him there for the rest of the party - a bit harsh admittedly

that is well out of order, anyone who "feeds" someone acid without consent is a total cunt in my book.

well they thought anyone who come to a free party, mugs people and sells dodgy drugs is a cunt, like I said a bit harsh admittedly

@ bracket - yeah I stopped going to exodus when I left home, but I went to one a couple of years later and after going to Lost and things like that in london I was bored by the music and frightened by all the rock-stars. I think the whole jungle scene went that way though. I went to the Paradise club in Islington once circa 1994 and had to leave when the bouncers let in all these yardies who started selling rocks - they were just passing people the pipe and the whole atmosphere changed - I was well scared.
