I'm a bit frightened to categorise my listening tastes, cos once I've started I'll never stop...

At the moment I am mostly listening to: melancholic shoegazing drone-rock (Slowdive, Galaxie 500, Mazzy Star, early My Bloody Valentine); jerky hardcore (Nomeansno, Melt Banana); lots of Prince and Curtis Mayfield; "bingo beats" style breakbeat garage taped from pirate radio; classic bop era jazz (Bill Evans, Lester Young, early Coltrane etc); loads of 80s pop and indie on BBC Radio 2; old-school jump-up jungle (eg early Ganja Cru / Aphrodite); Skacid; dramatic moody cigarette-smoking chanteurs (Scott Walker, Tindersticks, Pulp, Ute Lemperer); trashy yet somehow highly spiritual percussive composers (Moondog, Harry Partch); early church music (Palestrina); post-romantic, pre-serial Shoenberg; Commodore 64 post-dhr trash (Cursor Miner, Disk*a, Rorn); super-autonomous 70s crocheted-hat-wearing free jazz (Art Ensemble Of Chicago, Roland Kirk, Sun Ra) etc etc etc...

How old are you Knid, cos I haven't got a fucking scooby about most of the artists you just named there ......

If I think about my cd collection it seems to be drum n bass,techno,deep house,hip-hop,experimental, but all pretty much electronic. Oh and various Beatles albums and a tiny tiny bit of indie, but even that has an electronic element to it ...

I need to start listening to sumothersheeeat ....

I'm 27 but I'm too burnt-out to really go clubbing much anymore so I pass the large amount of time I have on my hands reading the Wire and histories of weird music and downloading nutsoid stuff from Audiogalaxy.

It's been 10 years of madness but I think I'm now coming to the 'finding out about other music stage in my life' too.... dunno where to start like ....everything I like seems to some sort of club-connection ....

--Nice! I venture through a few of the sounds you've listed- Although, I think I will be forever sinking into Slowdive... I sometimes feel as if I am dragging my feet a little, but I have held Slowdive (and the likes) as my subtle, sleepy soundtrack for years... If you are interested to seek out a similar sounding band (one that you may not yet know)- Look for Siansperic- They are originally from the Hamiltion/Toronto (Canada) area.

I'm listening to Kate Bush, Grace Jones, sun ra, The Pop Group and this band from the 80's called chrome. Also been going back to metal bands like cathedral, napalm death, slayer, early scorn, godflesh, etc... I feel sorry for those people who just stick to one kind of music, they don't know all the good stuff they are missing out

Well you youngsters.....Old Skool Im 15 years older than you so Ive done things in reverse order to you..although Ive now been into modern techno clubs for six years...(I went clubbing before it was re-event, in the days of Grand Master Flash, Heaven 17, Human League, Grace Jones etc, etc

If its interesting music from before the event of indie/and modern techno your after check out Magazine, Swell Maps, Comsat Angels, The Fall, Fad Gadget, Sly n Robies dub stuff....

--With mention of Napalm Death and Scorn- Mick Harris' name has been all over the place- doing various remixes and collaborations (w/ likes of Oliver Ho etc...)- I heard he was going to be working with Mark Spybey (Download-Dead Voices on Air)- this was a while ago- Did anyone hear what they came up with (if at all yet)?

Heh ..... the last time I was in 3-beat, I got a load of abuse from Andy Nick for slagging off vinyl cos I think cd is better.....not the best thing to do in a specialist record shop.

Probe's not bad, but if you haven't got a clue what you're looking for then you're screwed really .... that's probably why I always end up in the 'electronic area' .....
