View Full Version : Dedbeat Weekender !
Well , we all just got back from the Dedbeat Weekender and it was total class!
Great fun , and to meet the board crew there just made it more special
Sorry I couldn't play the early morning set , but there seems to have been a little misunderstanding , and I turned up without any records! its a shame , cos I think if I had known we were staying , then I would certainly have enjoyed a DJ set there... well , there's always next year!

I just rolled in a while ago
a real pleasure to meet all of yous.
s_c were absolutely blinding, and to see them two days in row made it a comprehensive introduction for me.
my other highlights included venetian snares, some hiphop at 3 in the morning, dj rubbish and loads of like, other stuff.
can someone post some pix of any of the above or loosely related events or occurances please, thanx.

so you see it became a somewhat fuzzy blurry thing the second I left norfolk and now I just have to make sure I was actually there. the music certainly wobbled me about for a couple days, i remember that much, think I could be feeling wobbly for a little bit blonger..........mmbbbluuurgh

hey jamyna - was lovely to meet you. i spent the whole of saturday apart from a very brief foray into the outside world in my chalet feeling incredibly ill. i shouldnt have gone actually but im glad i did, and try to get better this week!
the organisers sam and matt carter were really happy on sunday, i think it all was going really well for them...nice one.

I am hurting quite badly, I've just spent most of this morning spewing my ring thanks to the five hundred and seventy three pints of guinness and eight litres of jack daniels consumed over the weekend.
Highlights: Venetian Snares, Infinite Livez, Majesticons, Keith Tenniswood at lunchtime, Luke Vibert playing disco in the small hours.

yeah how was vsnares?>id love to hear some details after the intial 12 hour porcelain hugging competition.cheers:)

knid sorry didnt manage to see you much at dedbeat. spewing your ring = attractive
V Knid esq
3rd March 2003, 14:33
Snares had an opera singer as an MC at the beginning then a rather dorky-looking wannabe death metal MC at the end. The beats were pure ferocious, including some 300bpm+ gabba.

Did you guys perk up on arrival at dedbeat? Must say you all looked a bit jaded getting in that van friday ;) Wish I could have been there but ATP will also be wicked and gotta say the S_C show rocked. Lovely to see everyone again, they all came out of the woodwork as usual, Ninj sends her love to all.

Well...I spent Friday being blown away by Super_Collider's awesome performance (a lÃ* grobelaar's fan-boy-gush-mode), captivated by the visuals on-screen, and affected by deep-core vibrations courtesy of the enormous sound system. It was the climax for me, and I spent the rest of the weekend chatting to some very intelligent folk, and getting giddy on champagne ....and sleeping!
On Saturday, for no particular reason, I lunched out my original plans to hear Hravtski, and Venetian Snares, and found myself jigging in the hip-hop room being entertained by the extremely humourous Pitman from Nottingham (check these guys out!) and Blackalicious and Brand Nubian...I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed this kind of music...
It was lovely to meet Emma and Baba from the no-future board.
Thanks Emma - I hope your voice is better soon so we can actually chat next time!

As a married man I shouldn't really be commenting on such things, but I couldn't help noticing that though there weren't many ladeeez at the weekender, the ones that were there were really rather hot (especially the petite japanese breakdancer!)

3rd March 2003, 16:36
I was completely entranced by the aural and visual presentation of Super_Collider's live performance on Friday at dedbeat. Stunning performance from the band - I've become used to listening to Raw Digits through 100W speakers, and nothing (not even the txts from friends who attended Thursday's gig at the Spitz) could have prepared me for the strength of the combined performance.
Who did the visuals on the screens? They iced my cake!
It was lovely to meet the no-future board crew :)
dirtyho
3rd March 2003, 16:54
The visuals are done by Pablo Fiasco I think. Check his video to messagesacomin IP it's wicked in testuo type style, he is a lovely, interesting and talented man.

we experienced a random act of violence in our chalet lol
the top panel of our chalet was smashed in completely to the other side by a drunken guy, knocking to be let in
dedbeat were cool about it...and my crew didn't lose their deposit on the chalet - we went halves with dedbeat to get the door fixed, which seemed fair

I would have enjoyed a DJ set from you there...I was glad u mentioned u weren't playing at 'ridiculous o'clock' in the morning, cos I would have stayed awake especially :)
im am also now back from a quick skip to amsterdam b4 coming down to malta..fookin hell! full of english footie fanz & essex girlz!
dedbeat was totally rockin, and everything one could have wanted from 'undergroundish' event of it's scale..
highlights:
EL-p + Aesop Rock - a damn blinding show.. pure to it form, full of enrgy and the crowd knew them wrd by word so the atmsphere was spectacular
Edan - damn spectacular MC, that puts hiphop in a perfect toungue-n-cheek posisition
Pitman - great stuff, really funny esp. the manuva cover version' witness ( the fitness )
Venetian Snares - Sounds like it's yr last minute alive.. Hell's very own soundtrack, and still is great except for that second singer ( if im right that was speedranch )
Fingathing - a new trick in the scratchers handbook, very well done
Andrew Weatherall- as always flawless
S_C - had a great show on friday at dedbeat, but the show at the skitz was a damn spectular mindblowing one, my greatest musical event till date
IP,jamjna, emma, christian, jamie ,grob, molavo, dirtyho - twas great meeting you all

love the picture - one of my cats is almost as fat as that, although they would have trouble getting into that box to take a shit.

Thanks, I get told this a lot to be honest. I'm a bit more reserved on the net - you flatter me.
Aesthetically that's a bit better, but I still like the lame dog best of all! At least you can sort of write as well.

I said that I didn't care about the price.
It's not very nice anyway.

Horse is nice, I had a wicked horse salad in italy once. Pigeon is nice, salt and szechuan pepper roasted pigeon is lush. Rabbit is good, I had a super nice rabbit casserole for about £3 near Camp Nou in Barcelona last summer. Most animals taste nice if you cook them in a complementary fashion, I have no hang-up about eating any animal.

couldn't really taste the worms, they were fried up in oil, nothing special, you know on a hexi-burner, and a mess tin.

tis indeed my own fault. The aforementioned fish was a piece of cod. Now it certainly duth serve me right coz i shouldn't have eaten a poor cod and never will again. (unless it's to survive) Cod got it bad enough what with the poor fellas increasing their breeding cycle by 2 months to compensate for the amount of em being caught. They is endangered now i guess and are only found off the coast of iceland. So the fact i got ill was a punishment from cod...
Dog eat dog dude... even with fish, people absolve themselves of moral responsibility with fish as you don't have to kill them, just remove them from the environment in which they can survive... Fish is the mind killer...
where's that damn coat gone
