they're both good systems. maybe check out the motu 828 as well. you could even get the digidesign 001 for about us$650-$700 and that gives you a mini pro-tools setup (however it seems most producers don't gain much from pro tools.. seems to be mainly a recording and post-production tool)

and what about Emagic EMI 6/2 M USB Audio Interface (http://www.zzounds.com/love.music?p=p.EMAEMI62M&z=1626459797446) ??

I use pro tools and love it. I think it is a great program. but as for a soundcard/ interface, I would recommend checking out creamware. they run around $1000. maybe a little less. and you can get tons of free softsynths with it. one of my friends uses that and he loves it.

@will o the wisp
it's a cool box but for some reason i just have a grudge against rca connectors...
@penny
another box that anarchosyn tipped me onto is the m audio delta 410 firewire box. it's not out till early march, but it's firewire and has 2in 10out s/pdif optical and coax in/outs and has an extra midi in/out. musiciansfriend.com already has them posted for us$399 so that's a super bargain.

...and what about Echo Digital Audio Layla24?
does anybody knows software of this system and sound quality?

I knew someone who had an echo darla. they thought it was great and that it worked well with their studio, but I am not sure about any software.
do you mean software that comes with it?
or what software that will support it? if it is the latter, I don't think that should be any concern if you are using a fairly recent sound aplication.

Tony Rohr uses the Layla in the studio and performing. very good sounding and stable.
I have a M/Audio 2496 Audiophile.
stereo in and out with s/pdif too....24 bit works good. Athalon system runs ASIO drivers and it never has problems.
depends how simple you want it.
many outs/ins for studio work, or just stable, clean sound recording and playback.

I have the same card tonewrecker.
it is a really good one at a great price.
but now I only really use it for an extra midi interface since I got a digi 002 control surface that has plenty of audio in/out.
