I the undersigned demand the immediate closure of shite rock venues:

(1) Intrepid Fox (done)
(2) Astoria (well under way)
(3) Electric Ballroom (plans in motion)

It ain't 1986 any more. These places seem to have completely missed both acid house and The Hacienda.

Move along, nothing to see here.

I've seen a fair few good metal gigs at the Astoria when I was a teenager. I remember always getting kicked out quickly after the band finished, so they could clear the floor and reopen it for another paying night immediately after. Money grabbing cunts.

I saw the Revolting Cocks at the Astoria, which ranks pretty highly on the list of best gigs I've ever been to, so I'll always have fond memories of the place.

edit to add : I say memories as I have no intention of ever going there again.

oh yeah, would never go back there again

last proper gig I went to was the Brixton Academy earlier this year. Apart from the shit beer, it's still a great venue, I reckon.

got to say, even though i'm being all pro-astoria, the only venue i would fight to the death for is the garage in islington, seen so many great gigs there it's hard to remember them all; godflesh, god, main, seefeel, dillinger escape plan.

yeah, the Garage is good
