MUX

zombie ritual
20th March 2002, 15:28
Oh come on! They used to be classic! Actually "Master of Puppets" was my very first record. I propose we all shed a tear for the decline of this once pioneering band which made metal into actually listenable music! Actually I don't know what Metallica has to do with sexist guitar frames. They were never a cockrock band!

MUX

i love iron maiden. a documentary about their fans is long overdue. their releases get into the top ten immediately with no airplay or publicity...they are a triumph of trad metal values in todays soulless pop wasteland!

we brits can really be proud of our metalling heritage!

why do i know about iron maiden and fencing?

Loz
21st March 2002, 12:55
Also, Bruce Dickenson is about 55 or something now. Still looks 30. That's impressive.

zombie ritual
21st March 2002, 13:07
Emma, I'm surprised. Earlier you mentioned liking Guns'n'Roses, and now Iron Maiden??? Veeeery unusual for electronic music fans. Next time you're gonna tell us you like Judas Priest as well?lol

V Knid esq

Bruce Dickinson, aristo, opera singer and author (of the much-reviled The Adventures Of Lord Iffy Boatrace), was also on the national fencing team before more important duties in the service of true metal called.

I heard a story from aristocratic friends-of-friends that he wrote a formal letter to them asking for permission to do sex with their 14 year old daughter, and was granted the permission.

Come on, are people only allowed to like a single style of music?

A lot of people like a wide range of styles, for example, my record collection consists of techno, hip hop, heavy metal, blues, jazz, folk, skiffle, guitar rock, classical, all kinds of stuff.

Open your ears to other forms of music to beeps and beats.

V Knid esq
21st March 2002, 13:14
Emma, you are so right about a documentary about fans of Ver Maiden (as Smash Hits used to call them). Has anyone seen 'Heavy Metal Parking Lot'? This guy made a film just interviewing small-town midwestern metal fans in the parking lots of Judas Priest gigs... there are some scary inbreds among them, but overall it's a life-affirming document of the power of the RAAWWWWKKK!!!

Loz

Speaking of which.. this week sees the start of The Osbournes: A Fly on the Wall Documentary on MTV in the house of Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne, and their 3 Addams Family kids.

Must be worth a watch.

This is something I meant to raise a while ago.

I wondered how many people on this board listen exclusively to electronic music.

I like to think that I have a broad musical taste, so to name but a few: I love Brazilian stuff (eg Hermeto Pascoal, Aerto), a lot of jazz (from older be-bop like Charlie Mingus to more modern stuff like the ECM label, and obviously Miles), some vocal funk (James Brown, Sly stone, Prince, Bobby McFerrin) some 20th cent classical (eg Bartok), some African music (Soukous style), loads of Frank Zappa (can't get enuff of that), loads of hip-hop & not forgetting my sizable collection of uncompromising electronic madness which I love just as much as everything else. For me, diversity is the spice of life! ;)

So, what does everyone listen to?

MUX

this would be a fuckin BIG post..
maybe cristian can add the feature to our profiles like the top 3 entries..

PRIEST RULES by the way!!!

And the only good thing to come out of Metallica is MEGADETH!!!

Loz

Friend of mine STILL doesn't get that joke, we've sat him down and explained it carefully in detail, but he keeps saying "It's marked to 11, so what?"

Sheridan
21st March 2002, 23:08
I am currently in school right now getting a degree in the
recording arts (engineering and the such) and that spinal tap
joke is pretty much a daily occurence.
and I have to say that if there is any band that is still rocking
it is slayer. I saw them a few months ago and they were as
heavy as ever, and they are pushing 40.
although halford is the shit.

MUX
22nd March 2002, 00:41
anyone got the spinal tap as DIVX?

DJ DELAZE

1. metal RAWKS!!!

2. spinal tap is the best film EVER MADE

yes, SLAYER their new album is very good.

zombie ritual
22nd March 2002, 14:31
Compared to their earlier stuff, the new SLAYER is....ummmm....average. Too much nu-metal bullshit if you ask me. Too many "fucking" and "motherfuckers", like if they were gangsta rappers or something like that. If you go for the real devastating stuff check out DEW-SCENTED, CRYPTOPSY, DYING FETUS, CARNAL FORGE, MESHUGGAH, EXHUMED, hell even the new DESTRUCTION album is better (and it's called "The Antichrist" hihi....)! AND....the real killer album in this spring's metal world is CANNIBAL CORPSE: "GORE OBSESSED". Anyone who cares about metal can't miss this!

There was a programme last week on tv about 80's rock and stuff, did anyone see it? It had the old Judas preist in court bit and it was fucking hilarious, the jury scratching a record back and forth going " does this sound like it says DO IT, DO IT" and Halford showing them that he recorded a bit of a random song backwards and it sounded like "I asked for a peppermint" Classic!

Also, Ozzy Osborne has to be THE most funniest man in rock.

Also BAD NEWS parts 1&2 very good for that british rock angle!

As for that Judus Priest "subliminal text" thing, if all a record has to say (backwards or otherwise) is "do it" in order to get a some kind of murder case slapped on yer ass, I find that worrying!

hm i miss in the nu metal shit the raw power metal used to have.
i mean panthera - walk f.e. compared with limp bizcuit, limp biz sounds like christina aguillera.
korn used to have some cool tracks but the last album got a little bit shallow.
hope the next album is gettin better.

selputura isn´t what they used to be. slipknot sux. and slayer? never was into them. selputura, death etc was more my cup of tea.

jukka

deccard
24th March 2002, 09:41
no don´t got the homevideo of pantera.

btw weishaupt. electronic music isn´t that new and fresh either.
and listening all the time to only pure electronic stuff is not satisfying my soul.
there are nice bands out there which combine electronic and livemusic....try sand for example.

zombie ritual
24th March 2002, 14:23
To say guitar music is prehistoric implies thinking that there is a linear progress in music, which is obviously not the case. You can't do just everything with electronic equipment, it has its limitations just as non-electronic instruments have. So electronic music is just an addition to non-electronic music, just as "plugged" music was just an addition to, but not a replacement acoustic music, because acoustic music has qualities which can not be obtained with plugged instruments. Besides that, speaking of something like progress might be senseless anyway regarding the possibility that nothing really groundbreaking new will come about in music. We can refine certain things, bring in a few subtle changes here and there, but generally we're though. I don't know what Cristian Vogel was exactly thinking when entitling an album "all music has come to an end", but I think he just described the present state adequately.
And even if one day somebody invents a device which can transform your ideas directly into sounds whithout nasty interfaces such as a mouse or giutar strings, would it change anything about the content? I don't think so. Therefore, it might simply not matter if you use guitars or a laptop.

Weishaupt
25th March 2002, 17:42
my opinion is...guitar music show us feelings they we know. Theres nothing new in the struktur and development..........speziall elec. music show you new ways, new feeling and new kinds of development

jukka
25th March 2002, 17:51
hhmmm..there is something true in it.....
but anyway..shut your fucking mouth you intolerant mother****** !!!
lol _:D _:) _:!

deccard
25th March 2002, 18:15
weishaupt: i think that you forget that metal would be rediculous without an amp.
and the amps don´t work with steam. so where is the fine line you (can) draw between old shit and new shit, between electronic music and pre-electronic music.

evolution? (yeah i know. we never should have left the ocean:!)

zombie ritual
25th March 2002, 20:21
What is new in the structure of techno??? The minimalist approach? Come on!

Weishaupt
26th March 2002, 07:55
Oh.......a little challange.....?:)

Well, new is kind of perception do you ever learn........you sound ideas, thougst and feelings from ohter persons............what is your feeling.................by hearing and celebrating other strukturs.

btw.....jukka....put your jukka palm in your motherfuckin ÄSS....i´m intolerant yeah..thats my religion........
