It's corking. I sort of wish he'd kept the rave tracks and the ambient jazz jobs separate as the pace kind of leaps all over the place though. Still who am I to complain? It's still genius.

It's oddly excellent. Totally genuine.

listening it right now and sounds like computer music and computerized "radio television" orchestras.

Yeah it well chilled at points, but has that typical squario melodicness all over it.
Welcome To Europe, Hello Meow and Modern Bass gutar are the stand out tracks for me...

I really like Planetarium

yeah, that too. I reckon there is only two tracks that i'm not really that keen on.

my opinion is the inverse.

I checked it while stoned, so that's why I got to like it. It isn't brilliant immediately, like his earlier stuff, but the aim seems very different here.

yeah i've heard that listening to music on drugs can make it seem palettable in the short term
i haven't heard it so would you recommend we always listen to it while off our heads?

I mean longer term, though. Sometimes I need help in divorcing myself from mundane reality, but once achieved I can listen to music in a more engaged way. And it doesn't make it 'palettable' for me -- I've assessed a lot of music as 'crap' when stoned.
Yes, I think we should all listen to all music off our heads - unless our heads our otherwise 'liberated'. :)

its just ironic that that you use the exact opposite method i use for assessing tunes
as a general rule of thumb... if its good when i'm not off my head, its probably good, if i'm off my head... everything sounds good, i had a really noisy shit once in my echoey bathroom a few years back while on acid and i actually thought i'd found the new rave direction
when the drugs wore off it turned out i'd made a small error... gutted

I was just kidding: I don't think all music needs to be listened to stoned. At the same time, I think it can help me to focus at times when my mind is pulled in many directions.
Also, different music for different mental states. I think a lot of music is good when I'm straight but sounds strangely lacking when I'm stoned.

I disagree though - there's more tracks on here that are immediate, stick in your brain on one listen etc than on recent albums. Hello Miaow, Bubble Life, Planetarium, Welcome To Europe - they've got that Big Loada ultra catchy melody rave thing...

I guess I had different preconception about what a 'pusher album would sound like, i.e. perhaps more grating, 'crazier' sounds etc.
I know what you mean by 'immediate' (in the 'catchy' sense) but I mean something different. I had to understand his motivation before I began to like it. A lot of the melodies sound almost cheesy so I had to try to see through that. You see, the sqaurepusher I really like is the later stuff ('rotted one note' onwards) especially loads of Go Plastic and DYKS. *That* was immediate for me.
BTW, I'm expecially digging Plotinus at the moment. I'm especially disliking 'The Modern Bass Guitar'. No more Anstrom Fecks, please! Seems he can do that shit in his sleep.

The Modern Bass Guitar is THE tune
it's like he included everything that makes Squarepusher, all in under 6 minutes
