Imagine it is the year 1997.
where were you at that point in your life?
where were you living, what were you doing?
what music were you really into, etc.

for me: I was still in the washington dc area.
I was a senior in high school.
I had just started to dj and I was really into the kind of techno claude young, cari lekebusch were doing. as well as the scotish stuff, like landstrumm, tarida, tobias schmidt, etc.

actually I was also into that stuff myself. that and industrial. I would go out to a 'rave' type club on fridays, and then on saturday it was back to the same club but this time it was all industrial. saw many a good show there. my fav for that year was sheep on drugs. one of the best shows I have ever seen.

i was listening to d+b and had been spinning rec's for a little over two years at that point. that year i got my first dj gig, and trainwreaked the whole way through it, well not all of it but most of it. i was living in houston half of the year and the other half in raleigh,nc. i did drugs and went to too many partys. i had a white car and no money. that about sums it up.

in 1997 i was a sohpomore in high school. i got my first decks that summer and was also very influenced by cari lekebusch (what happened to him? haven't heard much from him). the last of he good raves were going on here in chicago (alexi delano & cari lekebusch live p.a. at 6am in the morning... yeah!). i was at least able to see the last of a good thing, and the downfall of what turned into a terrible scene. '97 was probably the turning point in my life for my outlook on life and the style of music i would fall into. yay '97!

yes, yes, and YES.

I don't have sage's new album yet. I was at a local vinyl store that carries everything except techno. and they had the new sage francis album but I didn't have any money. oh yeah the guy was also trying to sell BOC: twoism for $20. isn't that being sold for like $7?

Cari is still around. he has been releasing a lot more eps recently. and I still think he lives in the city of angels.

hm 97 was strange. i worked as packager for neuton distribution and got all the techno records very cheap. spent all my money i earned there directly for vinyl.
but went less clubbing to make more music which was a good decision.
i guess i had my best time for clubbing 96.

pille'ocheoni
19th February 2003, 03:44
thats what i do now, so i had to get another job for spending money which consequently i spend on records. vicious cycles i guess

L.A. NEW YEAR'S DANCE PARTY CAUSES LAPD MOBILIZATION...
By Jim Fay, ENN Assoc. Editor

LOS ANGELES (ENN) A dance party attended by thousands of youths to celebrate the New Year, was abruptly cancelled when about fifty of the party goers became seriously ill from an unidentified liquid that was distributed. The liquid was described as an "orange colored" substance that was given out on the dance floor to the predominately young crowd.

The organizers of the party described it as an "herbal mixture," not a drug. However, of the fifty who became sick, at least thirty of them were hospitalized for dizziness, nausea, and difficulty breathing, necessitating a large response of EMS equipment. Some of the victims were saved at the scene by being resuscitated by paramedics that responded. The LAPD was mobilized for riot conditions, when the party was declared over by the organizers, on orders of the LAFD.

About 10,000 youths were in the streets around the Olympic Auditorium. Police were forced to fire "beanbag"-type ammunition at the rioters, when rocks and bottles were being thrown, hitting several helmeted officers. The crowd attempted to turn over cars and at least one bus. There were four arrests of those in the disorderly crowd, and another six arrested on drug charges.

The liquid, called "Herbal Ecstasy," was distributed at the dance by what one partier called "well-dressed men," who "no one expected a scam from." It came in vials, and was yellow-orange in color. Doctors who treated the youths stated that the symptoms that resembled that of designer drugs called "GHB," "FX," and "Ecstasy." (http://www.emergency.com/ecstas2.htm)

test was in it's heyday, with neil, toby, dave and shandy playing at the subclub every month. i was on the dole celebrating having just achieved a genetics degree a year previously with almost no effort and while sucking loads of lemons. indeed i was going for the world championship lemonsucking at the time and continued this practice for the next x years. so many lemons. i was a lot thinner, and more than a little insane every tuesday. but i believe temporary insanity helped me cope with watching richard and judy.

i had just moved up to nyc from virginia to go to college at columbia univeristy. loads different than i am now - was studying east asian studies and politics (i ended up studying art). i can sum up that year as basically my 'who the hell am i?' phase. i went to my first rave/techno party at 'save the robots' and remember thinking that was the coolest thing i had been to in my life, but taking another 2 years before i went to another.

1997, I was leaving chelmsford (where I spent three years doing a degree, you might ask WHY THE FUCK CHELMSFORD??? the answer, the university was at the top of the list (ANGLIA POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY) and they accepted me even tho I had pretty much failed alll my A Levels), moved to brighton, helped friends do some nights up in london (at 333 club), was into proper electronic musick (black dog productions, autechre, b12, et al). signed on for a while, and carried on doing stuff with my ohmputer.
