It's suddenly removed all my search engines from the little search box at the top right and won't add new ones, and also refuses to open the window maximised. This is irritating. I've tried re-installing. What's going on?

I had a bit of bovver so I completely removed it including a complete clean of everything out of the registry (after exporting by bookmarks) - then clean re-installed 1.5.0.6 and its working great now. That might sort out your download clitch too?

So much the same way I clean my nether parts, then?

Or should I use regedit and just delete all the Mozilla / Firefox folders?

weird, have u tinkered with any setting for ur graphics card or summat, not heard of any full screen type probs, I've had it crash on me a few times , but mostly cos of dodgy scripts in websites rather than it being firefox.

No it's definitely Firefox - It will go maximised if I click the maximise button, but it won't OPEN maximised which is just irritating. Also that problem started at the exact same time that the search box bug appeared. Anyway I'm going to try Adey's suggestion - wish me luck!

you might not need to clean the registry
try just deleting the C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Applica tion Data\Mozilla\Firefox directory (where Administrator is the account you're logging on as)

Argh I did the whole re-install thing, and it made no difference. Weirdly even though I'd deleted all the registry data it still remembered all my bookmarks

those are all held in that directory
save the bookmarks.html file from your profile within that directory
then delete it

type the address of the folder in the address bar of windows explorer

Yayyyy sorted. And it's sorted out the download freeze too. Thanks all! (it's forgotten all my passwords and my netvibes settings but no matter, I can sort that all out pretty quick)

You're risking so much more than even just personal safety.

corrupt profile everytime. there should be a big button on the toolbar that opens the profile manager just for the less technically inclined.

i'd have a registry clean anyway - will speed you up no end. a good one is TweakNow Powerpack 2006. Sould be able to get a copy off one of those p2p network things. or a couple of free ones that do an alright job are CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/ RegScrubXP http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048
