jukka, being cool is not a job. A job is something you get up early or late for and pays you money to survive. Maybe i should start a comedy thread where you can be cool in.? this is a serious discussion we are all having, and frankly Jukka you are being somewhat rude.

i am a prepress operator @ a print shop. i basically take in fucked customer files (99% of graphic designers really don't know how to create a good page layout) and i redesign them so that they will work for our workflow. i do everything from making plates for the press to making color proofs for the customers to see.

my dream job though (and what i'm trying to go to school for) would be to design computers for apple. i'm trying to get into industrial design and if i feel dedicated enough i'll persue a 2nd major in electronics and maybe build my own computer company some day. but right now i don't do shit.

Hey are you really a toy designer? That's so cool, when I was working at GW we were consultants for Mattel UK (before they got bought by Hasbro), they had just resinded their 'no toys with guns and weapons' policy and there teams hadn't got a clue how to design cool war toys - so they got us to help them out... Hmmm War toys I've been thinking recently though that they're bad , but in all honesty its the world around us, that makes them seem really cool... (aaargh I'm talking about war again)

i just came back from a shitty university party where i plaid some records. i didn´t have a partyhat (neither ss style nor gasmask). but i think the people wouldn´t have dance, if i would have wear one (was that right english?) anyway: it´s a hard job to be a dj particullary when everyone wants to listen to hiphop. i got 70 euros for five hours, that was the best thing of this evening but i think this was the last time i carried me records to such a student hen party. i´ll try someting different.... anybody ever worked as a petsitter ?(read tis offer today in a newspaper)

well I think you may have missed my point, I kind of meant that the job of a dj is perhaps not as appreciated in some ways as it should be...I've definitely been down the record carrying road, record was one flight case 2km and back for some fucking forest party in a natural habitat...

i recently got back into school and do that monday through thursday. on the weekends i waste my time at a pointless, deadend, low-paying retail job selling cookware and kitchen tools. i know you're thinking "how pimp!" true, it can be. with all the MILFS giving me either stank-eye or asking for "help to the car" (if you catch my drift *nudge nudge*) and my incredibly meager wage, that job is simply flossin'. at night, when i not dead tired from lack of sunlight and very little nutrition i try and work on music, write or paint.
i've never had a job i've liked.
i've never made over $8 an hour.
my longest job was 3 years, working as a cook.
i've never used any of the talents i was born with to make a living wage.

I used to really enjoy it, apart from when I did the round on a council estate with fucking vicious viscious Rottweilers that can nearly jump over 6 foot gates, tossers asking if I had their giro all the time and tripping over Cortina engines and various ford transit parts. Oh, and the old "if you have any bills for me you can take them back" Hahahaha, how many times have I heard that one before.

Apart from that it was great and I wouldn't mind doing it again I reckon.

As for me, I am starting a new job as a reseacher and developer in the computer science dept. of the local college in my home town. Research will be in the area of mobile computing, methinks.

Previously, I did similar work in the Univ. of Manchester so it's nice to return home and still continue a niche profession.

Plus, the nice thing about this job is that it is 39 hrs. a week and I get paid weekly and also get overtime for the first time in my life :)

Universitites are nice places to work once you can gather the right credentials, learn how to make some contacts and get in the door the first time. It's a bit of a club mentality really, with all the unwritten rules.
