Is anyone on here visually or aurally impaired?
It fascinates me that on the web those impairments don't mean the same thing as on the street.. so for that reason I can understand why people with those conditions may not feel the need to tell anyone.

My girlfriend used to work with a blind web programmer who worked on usability projects (and using a screenreader could read code faster than anyone else in the office). Recently on the nord modular synthesiser list there was a blind musician enquiring about whether it would be possible for him to use the software, but unfortunately the necessary code hooks were not in place.

I guess being Deaf doesn't require you to need extra software to interface with the www, but then would deaf people visit a music forum? Maybe the dubstep forums.. the enjoyment of those nights is just as much about physical sensation... and you can actually SEE the air vibrate :)

Has anyone checked out the pure audio versions of games like Quake? really mad.

Here's an article about it. I've not tried it but I listened to a demo and just couldn't work it out. It's amazing how the other senses specialise and compensate when one sense is impaired... the extra sensitivity to stereo position required is incredible.

blind people were some of the early peeps in the phreaking scene next to cap'n crunch too - or so the legend goes.

I fail some but not all red/green color tests - does that make me visually impaired then? seems to help with the present design ;)

"Joybubbles taught himself to whistle a tone (Namely, 2600Hz) that would cause a trunk to reset itself. Bill discovered that a recorder he had could play the same tone with the same effect. John Draper discovered through his friend, Joybubbles, that the free whistles given out in Captain Crunch cereal boxes made exactly a 2600 tone when blown, hence how he got his nickname, "Captain Crunch".
