What does everyone think of this new Steve Coogan sitcom? I personally think it's really funny but I think it might be more to do with the fact I have seen people like the character he plays in certain Loughborough pubs. I've only watched the first 2 and i'm downloading the 3rd at the minute.

i had to watch a couple of episodes to get into it, but now i think it's excellent. a lot more subtle than any of coogan's other characters, i reckon

It is very subtle but that's the kind of humour I like best.

It's getting better slowly I reckon. Don't think anyone is going to be remembering it fondly in ten years or anything but better than most stuff on TV.

first two were quite poor. i like it best when he is telling anecdotes about his roadie past.

the character is basically alan partridge again - frustrated, repressed, harking back to glory days gone by, obsessed with cars, etc etc etc

yeah. I always feel that it's all just a bit too close to Steve Coogan in reality... which puts me off a bit.

read in the paper that coogan has started his own company to help produce american remakes of british comedies. saxondale is first, then, wait for it

the mighty boosh

Saxondale would probably be better as an american version. If it was done properly...

American Mighty Boosh? Jesus wept.

Aren't all of Coogan's characters, basically Steve Coogan with nice bits added.

i dunno. i think the fact that he's british is important for the essential crapness of the character. an american former roadie who'd been on tour with the likes of aerosmith, motley crue and van halen would be too authentic; beyond the suburban mid-life crisis vibe, part of the tragedy of saxondale is that he was never the real deal... too young to have been working at the height of the various british rock invasions in the '70s, too old to be considered relevant

an american version of the mighty boosh would be the biggest pile of wank ever.

I like the fact that it's set in Stevenage. I have to go to a data centre there and it really is such a non-place.

I watched Tristram Shandy last night. It got a bit of a slating by the critics, but I actually enjoyed it. Steve Coogan actually playing himself for a change was amusing, especially sending up the fact that he hates Alan Patridge, is is always getting drunk and shagging random birds. Bit confusing that some actors (such as him, Rob Brydon, Dylan Moran and Gillian Anderson) were playing themselves, and others (Kelly McDonald, Stephen Fry, Mark Williams and James Fleet) were playing 'normal' people.

Rob Brydon does a great Alan Patridge impression, too.
