they're only playing with the us - for now. they know u.s. can't attack everywhere at once, so what a great chance to challenge the most powerful country in the world in public. good for prestige. i'm generally not so worried about countries (except the u.s.) using nuclear weapons as first-strike. every country knows if they do it the u.s. will drop something above their heads. the question is if they'll do it as "prevention" as well...

I love how the u.s. is so preoccupied with saddam and his weapons that may or may not exist. and n.korea is practically waving them in our face.
scary indeed, but I just see the whole n. korea thing turning into the next cold war.

I think North Korea is funny, I think I would like to visit there, I certainly think there is a clash of cultures - and they are definitely taking the 'why can't WE have WofMD - The US have them, the UK have them, Pakistan and India developed them recently - why the sudden crackdown.

I recent interview with South Koreans said that many of them would consider their North Koreans neighbours to be friend and would welcome them into their homes - I wonder if the divide between the two nations isn't being excerabated by US intervention and so called peace-keeping efforts...

The border between the two countries is the cited reason why the US couldn't sign the landmine ban treaty...

im not so sure if german rulers are that peaceful as they seem. chancelor schröder won the elections last september only by repeating the same statement over and over again: no war with us!
he, and the whole government, is under pretty much pressure right now and if they now would join in this war, he could surely take his hat. i bet he'd like to settle down all this beef with the big brother usa at once if he could.

anyway i'm sure there will be some kind of german participation, if not in then surely after the war - like in afghanistan. and i don't know if that is much safer.

as for north-korea, i guess they're just bitter cos they were not allowed to co-host the football-wm last year.
