So does Stella and I like that too...

I found it very easy to give up things like McDonalds and never crave them.. but I doubt I'll ever stop drinking coke.. which happens about once a month..

it's nice on a warm day but only for half a can. then i start tasting all the chemical shit which is masked by the extreme fizz for the first few mouthfuls.

i've drunk stella a couple of times, tastes like any other shit beer to me - sorry ;)

Steev, you ought to try Leffe. Fantastic beer from Belgium.

http://www.suninterbrew.ua/images/leffe.jpg

It's lovely, sort of a lager, but with a proper beery head on it. And it's really alcoholic, and you reach a point, usually half way through your second bottle, where you suddenly realise you're really quite pissed. But in the nice way.

Yeah thanks loz I drink it all the time, like I say I like nice beer and shit beer :)

Coke is just a drug to me, it works out of any bottle/can/vat. Except for those shitty bar syrup things.

leffe's amazin, two of the big champagne style bottles and i'm halfway to the floor, brilliant.

@spoon, coke's shit out of cans or placcy bottles, gotta be out of a glass bottle.

i wouldn't say that i like shit beer, but it's useful. i was throwing back the carlsbergs on friday, which is good stuff if you're going to be drinking alot because it's not too strong and doesn't really have any sort of taste. drinking alot of nice beer, from bottles usually, gets me hammered much quicker so i try to avoid it if it's going to be a full evening in the pub or whatever.

i'm not a beer snob btw :)

you can only get glass bottles in bars, hotels, eaters here though, in shops it's cans or plastic and plastic is the worst, much worse than cans. it is nicer out of a glass bottle though, yeah.

was in some shit meaty-only gastro pub oop norf landan the other week. They had Leffe on tap. I asked for a pint and the wunt serve me it. they said it was too strong to serve in pints. my arse. I drank two halves and didn't puke or nowt. they even said it will taste horrible without the wanky glass they get given to market it. want exactly happiest experience in a pub - all over a pint vs 2 wanky glasses??

I don't consider myself a heavy drinker, because I'm not, but I can easily polish off a couple of 3 pints of that stuff in an evening.

In theory, at least, they're trying to foster a 'continental drinking culture' by getting people to sip their beer like wine instead of swilling pints.

In reality, of course, it just allows them to charge even stupider prices.

yeah but small glasses has nothing to do with continental drinking culture as anyone who has ever ordered a pint in a hot country knows.

The only way to get a continental style drinking culture is to treat the folk like adults, maybe then folk wont feel the need to start the sambuka competition drinking competition at 6pm in order for the evening to be worthwhile in these townie pubs that are closed at 11.

repeal the defence of the realm act now!!!

Shofferhoffer is lush, I only found out about it on my last day in Berlin and spent most of my time caning Erdinger dunkel. Thanks for the heads up about Morrisons, is it a special offer or is it a permanent thing?

that is because there is raw cane sugar in the british coke and high fructose corn syrup in the american version.

the best coke is the mexican glass bottled coke served from a bit wheelbarrow of ice on the street in very hot weather :) Or the stuff served in bars for mixing which is like syrup. Or the soda stream cola...

It's very addictive though, me and my gf we're supposed to be giving it up cos coca cola are a nasty company like nestle. But we've both caved in several times already.

As long as the carlsbergs weren't the elephant variety :)

Stella is just the same as all the other mass marketed piss that dominates beer sales around the world (becks, carlsberg, fosters, budweiser, asahi, kronenbourg, nastra azzuro etc. etc. etc). At least where I live it is now possible to find decent brews on tap in plenty of establishments (unlike a few years ago).

I'm a proud beer snob :)

the common factor here is
WATER ...

If the base is good then the finish product is going to be good
generally water for Coke, Beer and Coffee Machines are filtered down to
0.2 of a micron, this takes out pretty much all the added extras that councils put in our drinking water.

Bullshit. I lived 5 years in the US and diet coke is the best soft drink, they can't even use the sweetener in Europe.

I think that most of the really large German breweries are no longer German, but actually Belgian. Like Löwenbräu, sold to Interbrew of Belgium. Might also have to do with the fact that Anheiser-Busch is the world's largest brewery though ;)

Anyhow Budweiser is a shit beer, give me Budvar any day!

Its the can - the metal in the can tinges the tastes - that is why drinks taste better if they are decanted out of the can.

I have the real skinny on the differences betwixt US and UK coke. In the late 80's coca cola tried to introduce New Coke and phase out the coca cola then on sale. They did this because there is a small amount of natural flavouring in original coke and the New Coke was made entirely from man made chemicals and was therefore cheaper. Americans didnt like the change, because the new coke tasted worse, so they had to keep selling the old style recipe. What we have in Europe is New Coke.

coke is filtered up to 12 times to make the purest spring water. unfortuantly the water dosent belong to coke it belongs to the local farmers of many third world countrys, even if the land is privatly owned coke will drill down to the source and drain it leaving the land un farmable!!
it takes 9 litres of that water to make 1 litre of coke.
