View Full Version : The New Squarepusher EP!

I have heard this. Any all i have to say is. No one is fucking with Tom Jenkinson right Now. He's pretty much shutting down Electronic music. The first tune is the most brutal "pop" tune i have ever hear. Pure Genius. It's gonna be called "From Behind" you heard it here first.

Squarepusher is gay.

Tom isn't gay.
V Knid esq

He's a big hairy gay with a handlebar moustache, aviator shades, chaps and a gallon container of poppers and swarfega mix.

is it a two-step 'pop' thing like my red hot car/do you know squarepusher? any idea when its out? is he ever gonna put something out on that MEN label or what?
MUX
5th February 2003, 00:23
he's good but hyped.
he was certainly ahead of his time.
KaOz
5th February 2003, 01:55
he plays e bass like a traumtorten god
phil
5th February 2003, 10:00
The new "pop" tune is like britney spears on DMT in the year 2077. if she was the same age. its so brutal, it's garage no doubt but off its fucking head. dunno when its coming out for sure, but coming out with it is a re-issue of Buddakan mindphone, which has all the tracks off maximum priest and three new amazing tracks
wheezer
5th February 2003, 10:02
I dunno, "red hot car" wasn't half bad, but making fun of garage is a bit easy imho, would've expected more from the great squarepusher...
phil
5th February 2003, 10:04
trust me. you have never heard anything like this. makes everything else like Mike P seem pretty soulless.
KaOz
5th February 2003, 12:22
dont hipe it to much, he is only a human.
there are better ones.
phil
5th February 2003, 12:30
But it's the bollax
barry2604
5th February 2003, 12:52
yeah, he is the daddy, the only person you really need to listen to...full stop. why does budakhan mindphone need a reissue, can you not still get it? iambic 5 poetry is probably my fave tune of all time.
i was listening to that yee-king mix on maximum priest last night...spotted a sound he used on superuser in it, i think its in the track sleepy clown.
phil
5th February 2003, 12:55
all the remixes are being taken off. and like i said it is being merged with maximum priest plus 3 tracks which were left off which are amazing. So it's gonna be a big album now. cop the vinyl.
V Knid esq
5th February 2003, 14:36
I'm sure it'll be terrific.
But very gay.
phil
5th February 2003, 14:37
How do you mean gay?
barry2604
5th February 2003, 14:37
are you mates with tom phil? or mate of a mate or what? just curious where you're getting all your info. the remixes are good stuff though, esp yee-king's...he's ridiculously under-rated and ignored.
V Knid esq
5th February 2003, 14:42
gay as in happy: skipping through flowered meadows singing "tra la la la la" and blowing kisses to little baby fawns and bunnikins.
phil
5th February 2003, 14:51
yee-kings superuser is lovely. i love the track toby. thats got soul.
Tom is a mate, lives near me, gonna be doing a video off a new track on the EP "from Behind"
barry2604
5th February 2003, 16:40
nice one...shake his hand for me. you're doing the video then? have you done any other stuff like that before?
phil
5th February 2003, 16:57

That does sound like Squarepusher to me.
Good old big gay Squarey .... and his one trick pony.
phil

what do you mean "one trick pony"?

Sorry, the album was called Go Plastic wasn't it ? I got confused...
phil

Im not sure I understand what your saying?

5th February 2003, 17:30
I just find Squarepusher, and now even Aphex Twin to be big fans of the fast attack, in yer face, let's av it, snare drums and erm nowt else really. And they like to use them on the vast majority of tracks. Go Plastic bored me to tears after a few tracks and the same with Aphex's latest one.
Have they started sleeping with each other or summat ?
phil
5th February 2003, 17:33
well not many people really like Tom's stuff really. i love the av it brutal shit. loads of soul. If you like very calm music which is good, super user by yee-king is good. you prolly heard it.
old skool
5th February 2003, 17:38
I haven't heard it but I see you've mentioned a remix by that artist before.
Mad snare's are great, when there's a big phat bassline running under them and an MC giving it some....
But sat on my couch trying to have a conversation with a plant after a night out ... nah ....
Each to their own I suppose.

yeah definitelly Tom is the man, specially with his Orville...
phil, do you have an idea when his new ep is coming out?

prolly april, its finished toms doing a cover with john his brother, but u know what warp are like. They take ages to sort their lives out.

it´s just a matter of taste.
the new stuff of "old" electronic heroes doesn´t have this "first man on the moon" effect anymore. there are others now who can keep it more than up.

if he wouldn´t have his groove he wouldn´t be him but on not every track it shines. same goes for druqs. not half of the tracks have the quality an afx could make or already did.
anyway i liked the mindphone most...

My minds too advanced for him more like. I like sounds that when comprised together create something called 'music'. Whooaa check that out baby.
My 5 year old nephew gets on the Squarepusher thang when he kicks his Fisher Price drumkit down the stairs... only he's taking it to another level like Aphex by sticking on his little Japanese music box at the same time ... aaah .... go for it little Alfred.

well there was a lot of chance involved - I was on location, and when I noticed that the music sucked, my first instinct was to get properly plastered - after I had achieved that goal, I spotted a postcard stand in the corner, and it held those aforementioned 200 postcards...the chance was too beautiful to pass up.
but I did pass out some finnish anti-mp3 brochures at last new years in germany, that was quite fun too - I was actually able to convince one guy that the brochure was a flyer for a party next week at the same location, just written in Finnish instead of German...

I dunno about that... if it was a nice looking gay nutter, I'd be flattered and say 'cheers dude but I'm straight', but if it was a nutter bangin' on about my parents dying whilst I'm trying to have a night out, I'd lay smackdown on his bitch ass .... generally.

no, I took a small dose the first time, not knowing what to expect, really - lost control of my body (i.e. couldn't move at all) for about 10 minutes that seemed more like 3-4 days - didn't really matter though coz when I realized that I had lost control of my body I had already regained it - wild, like a freight train driving through your brain at 20 acidhits per hour...not really my cup of tea

I wanna try DMT. I used to love trippin' but after a couple of hours when you've peaked, I get really bored. Then things are REALLY dull after about 12 hours !!
What you need is madness for about 30 mins and then sleepy beepy dozy time ....
Or more madness.
Whatever you desire.
Ketamine's good like that cos it wears off after about an hour and then you can go meet your mum in church or whatever ....

or as a lot of the mystics say, the intrinsic truth behind reality.
if it is true, indeed, that everything is connected, and you have experienced this (for I have experienced this many times on different mind altering chemicals), then how can this be INHUMAN? surely it shows that the human condition of avoiding the issues, and trying to hide behind our monkey minds is the truelly scary thing?
phil, I have had some serious experiences on acid, and I can not blame a chemical for what happened, it was all down to me and my mind state at the time. You have to treat these things with respect of they will come and fuck you over - your mind is the most powerful thing that you have in your possesion, any miss-use and the mind will hit you back twice, three times as hard.

I have done DMT on several occasions - the first time being the most full on experience I have ever had. Being a veteran acid user, I thought that I knew all that could be known about psych-active chemicals and what they do to the mind, but DMT was a whole different ball game.

This is always a weird argument, how can taking a drug help you escape reality, when you and the drug you are taking are part of the reality that you are in. I disagree with that, taking drugs is no escape from reality.

there is use and abuse.
u can read nietzsche (or masturbate in your studio) 24h a day to avoid facing your life.
acid is nothing for me. my mind is trippy enough.
the experience of being connected to everything can be made without acid.
c.g. jung once said:" drugs are a present we haven´t earned" or something like that.
does anybody know this cd "space time continuum feat terrence mckenna"?
he discribes his first dmt experience. very funny story.

Yeah heard that.
Yes the experience of connected to everything can be made without drugs (hence the mystical writings of all religions).
jung states "drugs are a present we havn't earned" but there are pockets of humanity that it is their god given right to take psycho-active chemicals as part of their beliefs. a chemical that alters the mind, to me, is no different to a food source that you eat.
ofcourse abuse and use is two different things....

funny you should mention that, as it isn't that much of a difference between what he said and the plot in the matrix...
I had a friend who (tragically is dead now) when taking DMT, had a full blown experience of waking in one of those pods like in the matrix etc.
also had a friend who got abducted by aliens (during a dmt trip).... he couldn't believe it so did dmt again and the aliens abducted him again.

McKenna is endlessly entertaining but he is a snake-oil salesman - he's like one of those shyster travelling preachers in the deep south who does laying-on of hands etc. Brilliant entertainment, but philosophically VERY suspect.
LSD and the american dream is quite a good book, but you should not read it without reading "Turn Off Your Mind" by Gary Valentine Lachman, which tells you the stuff the other book misses out - some of the basic fallacies and nasty structures on which the 60s dream was constructed.

tis true, most of his writing has no "real" evidence, his best book is probably true hallucinations, as that just deals with the time him and his brother where in the amazon doing loads of shrooms, and his brother ended up crazy.
most of the 60's counter culture was all based on well off people, having the money and the resources to get loaded...

what was it like?
I reckon that doing it in a shamanistic, ritualistic way in the home lands of the people who believe will be a hell of a lot more fruitful than doing it out of their culture (just my 2 pence worth).

Differently fruitful, not more fruitful, I'd say. I did it in a ritual with a Shuar shaman from Ecuador and about 30 other people. I'd say that the only real benefit I got from the ritual circumstance was that the priest kew when to make a sound, play music or whatever, to draw our attention back to the outside world, so that we could keep a grip on what was happening internally. I'm sure that doing it out in the forest would be a mindblowing, wonderful and terrifying thing, but I also reckon that unless you're going to fuck off to the amazon and live there for the rest of your life, it's just as relevant to do it at home in an urban environment, and learn the lessons it gives you about OUR society and ways of forming our subjectivity etc.
In answer to Deccard/Old Skool - yes there are plenty of mail order services in the uk that sell Salvia Divinorum (now THERE's an interesting one!!), mexican mushroom kits, peyote, san pedro cactii, Iboga etc. Check the ads in the back of Bizarre magazine as a starting point, also check http://www.erowid.org/index.shtml (which is very hippy) and http://www.canedintotnes.co.uk/ (which isn't!)
Decadnids and others in or near brighton - go and check Hippy Pete's "Manic Organic" stall on the London Road market... he sells all the above and more, and despite his bumbling and raggedy dreads is very smart and clued-up - tons better than that twatty Guarana Bar in the N Lanes.
