Revenge of the Nyeeeerds.
hehe yeah, american splendor is a great film. i've seen it 3 times now i think, it gets better and better! i just watched crumb last night about the cartoonist robert crumb, the guy who played him in american splendor had him down to a T. another fascinating lunatic from the world of comics.

stop acting all intellectual, high brow fucks.
<ogre>NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEERDS</ogre>
hey, go watch it if you like - knock yourself out!
There are no more nerds. They are Weezer now. What is sad about Crumb? His brother? I really like both brothers. Such characters. Shame about what happened. The crumb family is still going strong. I think Crumb is illustrating a huge book on the book of Genesis. The Crumb site used to have a MB where you could get info from the son Jesse.

I thought Crumb ultimately came across as a likeable and talented selfish arse. Sad because the whole family was fucked and he seemed quite autistic in his inability to empathise.
i'd probably go along with that. it seems that all of the brothers in his family were touched by mental illness, him included, but as his wife says; crumb manages to put all of his demons into his work and maybe that's prevented him from ending up like one of his brothers - either manic depressive and dead, or a manic depressive sex offender.
actually that's probably bollocks. i am not a doctor.
Yeah, good observation. I guess I feel the same way, I just couldn't verbalise it.
I just wish he would tell his son he loves him and break the chain.
maybe they could do a sequel where he and his son go on a road trip together and bond. it would be called Final Destination 3 or something.

he is an egomaniac and seems completely emotionally defunct.
love his work though.

didn't read this, yes you're probably right, they all seem obsessive in one way or another, his paid off.
maybe he's just really pragmatic, his comics are very cynical but also grounded in lots of ways.

i think thats what the filmaker was aiming at, juxtaposing him with his brothers, especially with regards to women.

mmmm...juxtaposing...(strokes beard and gazes meaningfully into the middle-distance). i found crumbs continual grinning and chuckling quite disturbing. i always really liked his art when i was a kid but a lot of it seems quite mysoginistic when i see it now. big up for getting filmed riding a huge-arsed bitch around like a pony though.

What's happened to 'Seriously, Dude Where's My Car?'? That would have been the best sequel title ever.
I like the idea of The Da Vinci Code 2: I Know What You Did Last Supper
Crumb has sisters too that refused to be interviewed. I found a crumb video of his niece on youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z5XLI9lPgs
She looks a lot like Max.
I actually love the wry humor the brothers have for really dark subjects. They say adversity builds character. They all have character. When Max was telling the story about pulling the girls shorts down and her butt popping out like a ripe peach I had to laugh. I realize it's really bad, and he is basically a criminal, but it's the way he tells it that made it seem not so bad. Maybe I'm psychotic. Probably.
The son Jesse runs the Crumb family business in Cali while the father lives in France. They make a lot of money selling sculptures and figurines.

yeah but what im saying is that he gets put in jail, his brother is a chronic masturbator; wheras crumb can jump on women and draw them with giant asses and gets praised as a counterculture genius.
sometimes theres no justice in the world...
Fame is powerful. Just make sure you fondle a fan.

Yeah, great films.
I wonder what the Simpsons creators had in mind when they created the comic store guy?

it looks like the remake will not happen as production has been stopped.
