i saw today that the warp crew will be touring a small portion of the us this spring/summer. oh this will be a very cool event to atend to. un-fourtunately the cities they choose to tour is too far for me to travel too. but i really want to see scott herren/prefuse 73, who's coming out with a new album this summer. hell yeah\ here's the stats, and @cam your in the area, you might have a good chance to see them!

Prefuse73 will be playing live to kick off the shows with his awesome new material (the new album is finished and will be out this summer)
Plaid are busy preparing a special one-off laptop & box jam set - expect new and old treats and tweaks. Andrew Weatherall will then man the decks for 2 hours playing the most bumpy pumpy tracks going. The infamous Warp DJ posse will also make a rare US appearance to add a little spice to the proceedings!

i'm not sure what the line-up is, but my friends went to the warp show when they came through last time and they were all dissappointed. i'm personally kind of tired of prefuse 73 and the whole "glitch-hop" thing. don't get me wrong, i love hip hop and i love electronic music and experimentation and "idm" but i just hate that fusion between the two worlds. i've seen cylob dj (he was apparently on acid too) and it was alright. ovuca just sits in front of his laptop and smiles when people start getting into it.. dmx krew was kind of fun because he actually sings his songs and plays a little live stuff over it. bogdan raczynski was the only warp act that i've seen that i really liked. granted he just sits behind his laptop but he goes fucking nuts over his own shit and it's soo fun to get down to. i'll have to check the roster but if it's anything like the previous shows you can bet i won't be giving them my money.

oops, went on a little rephlex tangent there.. but still, warp has been dissappointing. plaid and mira calix were pretty boring when i saw them too. i can imagine that chicago as a city also has a negative influence on the vibe of the shows because no one in chicago fucking dances. if you dance you get weird looks. what the fuck?? we've got good music and just a bunch of stupid chin-scratchers... yay.

"sits in front of his laptop"

why does it matter what they do on stage, im sick of this critism of peoples sets.

it's just that i can sit home and listen to his cd instead of paying money to watch him watch his computer. if you're selling a live act, it might as well be a live act, right? i think there's been a thread on this before but human interaction is a large part of live performance. when the only thing the artist is doing is playing with his laptop, there's a real lack of human interaction (performer to audience). yes, i respect the fact that they are making music in front of a live audience and i understand the processes involved in doing such a thing. what pumps you up more at a show: an artist going nuts and throwing the emotions of their songs at you with some form of interaction (singing, dancing, ranting/raving/screaming, handy guitar work) or an artists really getting into that loop he's making on his laptop that only he (or she) can see? the energy that is presented by an artists should be able to be processed by the audience, who in turn sends energy back to the artists whether it be positive or negative. this is basic human interaction. when someone uses only their laptop for a live performance, the flow of energy seems only to go one way: to the audience. the audience (generally) has difficulty returning that energy when they don't understand what the artist is doing. and the flow of energy drops significantly. there are a lot of trainspotters that totally understand and totally dig what's going on, but what about the people that don't know what the artist is doing?

i'm not trying to criticize these artists. this is merely my point of view. i personally don't want to pay to see someone looking at their laptop. other people have their own opinions and are fully entitled to them. @nothinghere: i'm sorry if you took offense to it, but i can't please everyone and still have my own opinion.

yeah your right i guess. my thoughts are a little differnt though. i still enjoy the glitch hip-hop thing, i dont know maybe more this 80's glitch hip thing more now. do you think its allready boring? do people allready crave for something more? i just sit in my cave go to school and go to work and, all i see is more of this silent rock. sea and cake, all this minimalistic post rock stuff. some of its cool, but not all of it. what do you enjoy right now cam? and where do you see this " new " thing going? im not really sure and please express your opioion! its just words at this point:)

it's not that i don't like prefuse 73. he's talented. i like his savath & savalas and his asora & delarosa stuff. he's a good producer. but i got what i wanted in a more spastic form from earlier squarepusher stuff. the prefuse sound is still definately a fairly new sound and i don't think it's going to go away any more. the only other group (that i know of) that is similar is machinedrum and i think they're pretty good too. i'm personally a little tired of hip-hop samples, no matter how much (or little) you chop them up. but i think the "glitch-hop" sound is making bridges for people that don't want bridges to be made. it's making a direct link between hip-hop and idm. there's many people on both sides that don't want that kind of association. i guess that theory goes for any cross-genre artists though, but i personally could care less.

the sea and cake are alright. i really like one of their older cds called "the fawn". i'm not liking their new stuff though. i really don't know where music is going to go though. i think industrial music is going to make a pretty big comeback though.. maybe even creeping into the mainstream. since it seems the world is in a very dark mood right now, i think that the new generation of music will either feul the darkness or try to make things a bit happier and upbeat. i hope it's the latter. the world could use a dose of bubblegum every now and then. i just hope the pretensions start to dissipate from the music.

cool. yeah i see what your saying now. and i agree, cross genre " ing " does cause static sometimes.machine drum is accually one guy from what ive heard at full sail. he goes there and a friend sits with him in class. says hes all into this distortion thing. which is cool and hes a big part of merek recs, and part of the off shoot of the beta bodega group. cool stuff. i think prefuse spawned this whole new thing that ynq and daedelus ,dabrye, ammon contact, and the whole freakin dublab crew for that matter. ynq has been pumping for years now, but scott definetly opened the door for the rest. i like the cross personally. but hey.

Fuck Yeah! They are comming to LA, I'm fucking going for sure. I've been wanting to see Weatherall for years.
Actually I found out that Herbert is playing in LA on the 14th of Feb too, i going to that show too. Its a bit pricey $20, Has anyone seen Herbert Live before? What should I expect?

BTW I went to Nesh Last year, And i admit it was not the best show i've been too, but Liddel fucking kicked ass. Some of the other shit was redundant, but it was still interesting.

I’ve heard him Djing back in the days. I believe it was in 1997 or so. Straight melancholic Techno sound, you will never hear in the times of today. Go and check out his Mistakes-Mix-CD on Tresor. It’s a good cross section of what he djs nowadays.

I will be seeing herbert on the 12th.
and I hate to rub it in lefthandlou, but I get to see him for free! I don't know how the promoters pulled that off but there is no cover!
but I'd pay 20 bones to see him either way.
