article in the inquirer (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=31256)
If you copy Craig David's CD you get ten years, but if you punch him in the face and pummel him into a seven day coma you will only get six. You are more likely to get the respect of the prison population with your six year sentence as well.
It's about the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA), but that's not just an US-thing. Here in Germany they're preparing a similar law. and in other western countries as well, I bet.
What a strange world.
BTW. the cursor still makes me go nuts. Is there no way you can change its colour? please..

I've just finished reading Lawrence Lessig's book Free Culture which gives loads of amazingly stupid examples and very interesting argumnet. You can get it here (for free) www.free-culture.cc
Does anyone put out any of their tunes as Creative Commons btw? Just out of interest...

i've always had a copy-left stance with regards to my music. - hence the reason for setting up http://pathmusick.hermetech.net .
i do understand that artists have to make a living, and if peoples choice of a living is through their creativity, then they should be rewarded for this, as it aint an easy thing to do, lucky for me, i am able to make my money from other thing, so i don't have a huge emphasis on my musick to make money, if i did, i'd be on the dole.

I don't have any sympathy with mass uploaders of crap like Craig David.

I think almost all netlabels put their music out under a CC-Licence. Same goes for text on blogs. At least here in Germany every single blog I know is published under a CC-Licence. It's great and getting bigger..

Yeah he's so gutted about it... The book's good in parts - interesting to see the historical roots of copyright law
It's dark that the DMCA treates the undermining of any digital rights manamgement system as illegal - whether any illegal acts were committed or not. In the book Lessig uses the example of the Sony robot dogs. One guy posts up a hack on the net telling you how to teach it do dance jazz. But hacking this piece of shit robot dog is illegal, how fucked up.
In the visuals scene loads of people use CC, it's good to know that people on the music side do the same..

It would be a bit like being arrested for making a coat with large inside pockets on the grounds that the coat could be used for shoplifting.
