cant deny I got some influence form those days.....

more of a comical influence, the way people just went for it and did bonkers stuff.

I love early T-Power stuff.

you can't beat the sound of a mental build up then a pause then some ragga man coming in and saying a few dark lines about "One day all youth shall withness the fall of babylon" then....BANG..
bwaaa bwaaaa bwaaaaaaaaa bewaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
That is magic right there. Also for madness part 2 of Boneville occident by SP. and Go Spastic, manage to take those lovely elements and turn it inside out.

Early reinforced releases by goldie/rufige kru etc. are wicked. Some Nookie tracks and things like that were cool too, 4/4 beats with weirds breaks spiralling off them. Haaaardcore you know the score

Dead Dred
(Moving Shadow 1994)
Produced by Asend & Ultravibe of What
Kind of World fame, and probably the tune the stands out most of all from back in
'94 due to its manic contorting hoover bassline which lay the foundation for just about
the entire '95 jump-up scene that was soon to follow, complete with killer beats and
roaring gunshot blasts providing the icing on the cake. Also check the equally as
impressive (actually possibly more so) Origin Unknown remix in one of my
DJ mix sessions, which thankfully was slapped onto the b-side.
The original Egyptian Empire "Horns" track is wicked. Somewhere between modern techno and jungle. 4/4 beats with breaks on top.
Old goldie is good, 4 hero from back then is good. DJCrystal did some fat tracks with scatty snare patterns, cant remember the label. Check back catalogue of reinforced, ram, suburban base, full cycle etc..

I've always liked Jungle/dnb, but have followd it very much from the sidelines, rarely buying vinyl, as techno seems to swallow up most of my money. The stuff around that era is great, but I prefer stuff like Ed Rush & Optical mixes (very dark, moody music).

Fave tracks...

DJ Krust- Warhead
Q Project- Champion Sound
Bad Company- The Nine (the ultimate dark track)

certainly a very inspiring era for electronic music.
some of my favourite tunes of that time.

The Scientist-dj hype-, "Excorcist" and "The Bee"
Mickey Finn "Bionic Man"
Johnny L "Hurt You So"
Johnny Jungle (today known as Pascal) "Johnny"
Andy C "Valley Of The Shadows" also known as "31 seconds"
leviticus(jumping jack frost) "the burial" on phill blunt

*memorable fact: "dread bass" sold 47,000 copies on Moving Shadow

makes me very content to think that many producers & really small labels (at that time) have lasted longer than say, the spice girls and take that.

IT'S A DICTATION, AND IT'S A DEFINITION, OF HOW WE LIVIN'
Gang Related and Mask " Dictation" -dope dragon

i've never been buying so much db/jungle but there's one thing that just has to mentioned in this context: SOURCE DIRECT, preferably their older records. dark twisting energy.

and aphex, squarepusher and the whole rephlex-posse of course.
that 'psultan remix ep' is still the best db track ever for me! mental raving music for loud pa's.

a couple of my fave tunes that I used to play out are along those lines:

Nasty Habits - Shadow boxing (doc scott on 31 records)
Genotype - Extra Terestrial (early renegade hardware release)
Decoder - The Fog (on hard leaders)

the decoder track is possibly one of the most beltingly hard drum&bass tunes i have ever had the pleasure of hearing in a club and features a smartly cut amen

In certain circles D&B equals techno in its inteligence, check out DJ abstracts drum and bass production as well as John Tejada's who also has been doing a couple of wicked eletro mixes of late in the Rotters Golf Club vein. in fact radioactiveman has a pretty wicked D&B tune on his recent release 'dive & lie wrecked' did anyone go to the RGC party in Brighton late last year??? they have all the best bits from D&B in their sound,
I love it. Andy Weatherall is god!!

Although I like R.man's dnb track I think the other tracks on Dive.. are much better. I really like the Klart track on Machine Funk Specialists vol 1, which is really good for mixing in with dnb.
Radioactiveman live though- superb !!!

Yeah, I have used that track in my sets before. I sometimes like to build a hard drum&bass section into my eletro sets. Last time I tried this it really went off, I had been trying to persuade the nights founder to let me play some D&B for a long time untill he went to a hard eletro night and decided that he himself would play some. Luckily for me, he could'nt mix it for shit so I got the prime time slot and ripped up some old D&B with a load of 180bpm eletro. my finest DJ moment, every mix rolled perfectly and the breakdowns/drops worked a treat and I even got some scratching in!!(very basic I admit, but it seemed to work in some bizzare way). To bad it was only a Uni night.
Anyway, I think that more people should be more experimental and utilize cross genre mixing. dont know if anyone agree's ?

Keith Tenniswood is also a god!!
