Welll.... by all accounts Brett Easton Ellis DID put himself in some pretty dangerous situations through his crazed cocaine lifestyle.

I don't know much about D12 except that they were a fairly minor set of rappers given a huge profile in the hip hop scene thanks to their association with Eminem... and in that world where artistic status and gangsta status are kind of interchangeable, there's always going to be someone who thinks that taking a pop at you is going to lift them up in the world.
